SIMATS FGDS FAQs
Ques. Does the FGDS at Saveetha Dental College require NEET-MDS?
Ans. No, the Fellowship in General Dentistry (FGDS) at Saveetha Dental College does not require NEET-MDS. It is a direct admission program open to all BDS graduates who have completed their internship. There is no national entrance exam for this fellowship.
Ques. What exactly is included in the Rs. 6,50,000 course fee for FGDS?
Ans. The course fee of Rs. 6,50,000 is all-inclusive and covers tuition, clinical training, 5 dental implants (for hands-on implant placement training), and materials for fixed orthodontics, prosthodontics, and endodontics training. This means you do not pay separately for implant materials or clinical consumables used during training.
Ques. How many patients will I actually get to treat during the FGDS program?
Ans. According to the official program description, FGDS students receive training in the comprehensive management of over 200 patients covering all disciplines in dentistry. Given Saveetha Dental College's OPD of 2,000+ patients per day, clinical exposure is considered one of the best in India for fellowship students.
Ques. Is the FGDS certificate from Saveetha recognized? Can I use it to practice or apply for jobs abroad?
Ans. The FGDS certificate is awarded by Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS), a deemed university recognized by the UGC and DCI. While it is not a DCI-recognized postgraduate degree (like MDS), it is a recognized institutional fellowship that adds significant value to your CV for private practice, clinic jobs, and some international opportunities. For practicing abroad, you would still need to meet the respective country's dental licensing requirements.
Ques. Can I do the FGDS while also preparing for NEET-MDS?
Ans. Yes, many students pursue the FGDS specifically as a bridge year to build clinical skills while preparing for NEET-MDS. The intensive clinical training during FGDS helps reinforce practical knowledge, and the structured schedule at Saveetha allows students to study for NEET-MDS alongside their fellowship training. However, the program is full-time and demanding, so time management is crucial.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation available for FGDS students? What are the options?
Ans. Yes, hostel accommodation is available for fellowship students at Saveetha Dental College. The hostel offers a wide range of room types from basic double rooms (Rs. 30,000/year) to super deluxe single rooms (Rs. 1,50,000/year). Students can apply for hostel accommodation through the online hostel application form on the college website. Hostel is optional and not mandatory for the FGDS program.
