BU M.Phil. (Computer Science) FAQs
Ques. Is there an entrance exam for M.Phil. Computer Science admission at Bharathiar University?
Ans. No, there is no separate entrance examination for M.Phil. admission at Bharathiar University. Selection is purely merit-based, determined by the marks obtained in the qualifying PG degree (up to the 5th semester or 2nd year, excluding language and general knowledge papers). Candidates with strong academic records in their M.Sc. Computer Science or equivalent PG degree have a better chance of securing admission. TANCET scores are not required for M.Phil. admission at BU.
Ques. Can I pursue M.Phil. Computer Science at BU if my PG degree is from another university?
Ans. Yes, candidates with a PG degree from universities other than Bharathiar University are eligible to apply, provided their qualification is recognised as equivalent by the Syndicate of Bharathiar University. However, the "Other Fee" component is slightly higher for students from other institutions (₹9,920 total) compared to BU students (₹9,400 total). Candidates from other universities may also be required to produce an equivalence certificate from TANSCHE or the Association of Indian Universities (AIU) if requested.
Ques. Does completing M.Phil. at Bharathiar University help in getting direct Ph.D. admission?
Ans. Yes, this is one of the most significant advantages of completing M.Phil. at Bharathiar University. Ques. Is the M.Phil. Computer Science degree from Bharathiar University recognised for teaching positions in colleges?
Ans. Yes, the M.Phil. degree from Bharathiar University, which is a NAAC A++ accredited university (CGPA: 3.63), is widely recognised. However, as per the UGC regulations updated in 2018, the M.Phil. degree is no longer a mandatory qualification for Assistant Professor positions; NET/SET qualification is now the primary requirement. That said, an M.Phil. degree still adds significant value to a candidate's academic profile, especially for research-oriented roles, and is accepted by many state universities and colleges as an additional qualification for faculty recruitment.
