PU B.Des FAQs
Ques. Does Poornima University accept NIFT or NID entrance exam scores for B.Des (Fashion and Textile Design) admission?
Ans. Poornima University primarily admits students to the B.Des program based on 10+2 merit. While national design entrance exams like AIEED, UCEED, and NID DAT are accepted and may be considered, the university does not mandate NIFT scores specifically for this program. NIFT is a separate institution with its own admission process. Students who have appeared for NIFT but wish to join Poornima University can apply directly through the university's online portal using their 12th marks. It is advisable to confirm the latest exam acceptance policy directly with the admissions office at admission@poornima.edu.in before applying.
Ques. What is the difference between the Standard Fee Model and the Flat Fee Model at Poornima University for B.Des?
Ans. Poornima University offers two fee payment options for the B.Des program. Under the Standard Model, the annual fee is INR 1,17,500 (comprising Tuition Fee of INR 75,000, Development Fee of INR 25,000, and Administrative Fee of INR 17,500), totaling INR 4,70,000 over 4 years. Under the Flat Fee Model, the annual fee is a consolidated INR 90,000, totaling INR 3,60,000 over 4 years. The Flat Fee Model is a more economical option but it is important to note that SES merit scholarships are calculated on the tuition fee component (INR 75,000) and not on the flat fee. Students should evaluate which model is more beneficial based on their scholarship eligibility before confirming admission.
Ques. Is the B.Des (Fashion and Textile Design) program at Poornima University good for students who want to work in the textile industry specifically, not just fashion design?
Ans. Yes, the program at Poornima University is specifically titled "Fashion and Textile Design," which means the curriculum covers both fashion design and textile design as integrated disciplines. Students learn fabric structures, surface design, weave patterns, dyeing and printing techniques, and sustainable textile practices alongside garment construction and fashion illustration. Jaipur's proximity to major textile clusters (block printing, bandhani, leheriya, and Rajasthani craft traditions) gives students direct exposure to the textile industry. Graduates can pursue careers as Textile Designers, Surface Designers, Textile Testing and Quality Control Managers, and Technical Designers, in addition to fashion-specific roles.
Ques. How does the scholarship continuation work at Poornima University? Can I lose my scholarship mid-program?
Ans. Yes, scholarship continuation at Poornima University is conditional. The SES Scholarship is renewed each year based on the student's CGPA in the previous academic year (theory papers only). If a student has any backlog (failed paper) in any previous year, the SES Scholarship is permanently discontinued and cannot be reinstated for the remaining years of the program. Additionally, the scholarship category (Category 1, 2, or 3) is fixed at the time of admission and cannot be upgraded or changed in subsequent years. Students who are not eligible for the scholarship in the first year are also not eligible in subsequent years. This makes it critical to maintain a clean academic record throughout the program.
Ques. What kind of internship and industry exposure does Poornima University provide for B.Des Fashion students?
Ans. Poornima University places significant emphasis on practical exposure for B.Des students. The program mandates internships during summer breaks each year, and students are required to submit internship reports to their faculty. The placement cell assists in securing internship opportunities with apparel companies, boutique labels, retail chains, and design studios. Being located in Jaipur, students also benefit from proximity to the city's textile and handicraft industry, which provides opportunities for live projects, craft collaborations, and sourcing exposure. The university also organizes annual fashion shows, design exhibitions, and events like Charkhaa (a fashion and textile festival) where student collections are showcased to industry professionals and the public.
Ques. Is hostel accommodation guaranteed at Poornima University, and how should I book it?
Ans. Hostel accommodation at Poornima University is available for both boys and girls but is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. The hostel offers Non-AC (fan) rooms and AC/Duct rooms, with annual fees ranging from approximately INR 79,000 to INR 1,45,000 (inclusive of mess charges for 4 meals per day). To book a hostel, students need to register 2-4 months in advance by paying a caution deposit of INR 10,000, after which a room number is allotted. Given the high demand, it is strongly recommended to initiate the hostel booking process as soon as admission is confirmed. Students who do not get hostel accommodation can explore PG options in the nearby Vidhani and surrounding areas, which are considered affordable alternatives.
