MPBOU PGDAIDS FAQs
Ques. What is the difference between the PGDAIDS and the PG Diploma in Data Science (PGDDS) at MPBOU? Which one should I choose?
Ans. MPBOU offers two related PG Diploma programmes: PG Diploma in Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (PGDAIDS) and PG Diploma in Data Science (PGDDS). The PGDAIDS focuses more on AI fundamentals, Machine Learning, R Programming, Python, and Soft Computing (Neural Networks, Fuzzy Logic, Genetic Algorithms). The PGDDS focuses more on Data Science tools, Python, Object-Oriented Programming, and data analysis techniques. If you are interested in building AI models and working with ML algorithms, PGDAIDS is more suitable. If your focus is on data analysis, visualization, and statistical computing, PGDDS may be a better fit. Both are 2-year programmes at Rs. 8,500 per year.
Ques. Are the practical lab sessions mandatory? How are they conducted in distance mode?
Ans. Yes, practical lab sessions are mandatory for the PGDAIDS programme. Each semester includes one practical course: R Programming Lab (Semester I) and Machine Learning using Python Lab (Semester II). These practical sessions are conducted during face-to-face contact sessions at MPBOU's main campus in Bhopal or approved learning centres. Each practical course requires 60 hours of lab work per semester. Students must prepare a lab record book and submit it during the semester-end practical examination. The practical examination includes algorithm/flowchart writing, source code, debugging, execution, results, and viva-voce.
Ques. What career opportunities are available after completing the PGDAIDS from MPBOU?
Ans. Graduates of the PGDAIDS programme can pursue careers in roles such as Data Analyst, Junior AI/ML Engineer, Data Science Associate, Business Intelligence Analyst, Big Data Analyst, and Python/R Developer. The programme also prepares students for higher studies in AI, Data Science, or Computer Science. However, since this is a PG Diploma (not a full Master's degree), candidates seeking senior roles in top tech companies may need to supplement this with additional certifications (like Google, AWS, or Coursera AI/ML certifications) or pursue a full M.Sc./M.Tech. in AI or Data Science. The programme is particularly valuable for working professionals looking to transition into data-driven roles.
Ques. Is the PGDAIDS from MPBOU equivalent to a Master's degree? Is it recognized by UGC?
Ans. The PGDAIDS is a Post Graduate Diploma programme, not a Master's degree. It is not equivalent to an M.Sc. or M.Tech. for the purpose of government job eligibility or academic progression. However, it is a UGC-recognized qualification from a state open university (MPBOU is recognized by UGC and the Distance Education Bureau). The programme was approved by UGC-DEB for offering through ODL mode. For government jobs requiring a Master's degree, this diploma will not qualify. However, for private sector roles and skill-based positions, it is a valid and recognized credential.
Ques. What is the passing criteria and how are examinations conducted?
Ans. The PGDAIDS uses a Credit-Based Curriculum and Evaluation System (CBCS). Each course has two components: Continuous Internal Assessment (CIA) carrying 25 marks and End Semester Examination (ESE) carrying 75 marks. To pass each course, a student must score a minimum of 40% in the ESE and 40% in the aggregate (ESE + CIA). The ESE for theory courses is a 3-hour written examination with three parts: Part A (10 MCQs x 2 marks = 20 marks), Part B (5 questions x 5 marks = 25 marks), and Part C (3 out of 5 questions x 10 marks = 30 marks). Students who fail a course can reappear in subsequent examinations within the maximum programme duration of 2 years.
Ques. Can I pursue the PGDAIDS while working full-time? What is the time commitment required?
Ans. Yes, the PGDAIDS is specifically designed for working professionals through ODL mode. You can study at your own pace using the self-learning materials (SLMs) provided by MPBOU. However, you must attend mandatory face-to-face contact sessions (78 hours per semester, typically conducted on weekends or in batches) at the allotted study centre. You must also submit assignments for each course every semester and appear for semester-end examinations. The total time commitment is approximately 156 hours of contact sessions over 2 years, plus self-study time. Students who cannot complete the programme in 2 years (minimum) have up to 2 years maximum to complete it.
