MPBOU DTT FAQs
Ques. Is the DTT from MPBOU a UGC-recognised distance diploma? Will it be accepted for jobs in the travel industry?
Ans. Yes, the Diploma in Travel and Tourism (DTT) from MPBOU is offered under the Open and Distance Learning (ODL) mode and is approved by UGC-DEB (Distance Education Bureau). MPBOU is a state university established by an Act of the MP State Assembly and has been accredited by NAAC with Grade "A". The diploma is recognised for employment in the private travel and tourism sector. Most travel agencies, tour operators, and hospitality companies accept ODL diplomas for entry-level positions. However, for government tourism department jobs, students should verify the specific eligibility criteria of the job notification.
Ques. Can I pursue the DTT while working or studying another course simultaneously?
Ans. Yes, the DTT is a distance learning programme with no mandatory daily attendance. You study through Self-Learning Material (SLM) sent to your address and submit assignments as required. The only mandatory in-person requirement is the Term-End Examination (TEE), typically held in June-July. Additionally, under NEP 2020, MPBOU allows students to pursue multiple programmes simultaneously, so you can combine this diploma with another course if desired.
Ques. What subjects are covered in the DTT programme at MPBOU?
Ans. The DTT programme covers core topics related to the travel and tourism industry, including Introduction to Tourism, Tourism Geography, Tour Operations and Management, Travel Agency Management, Ticketing and Reservation Systems, Hospitality and Hotel Management basics, and Tourism Marketing. The curriculum is designed to give students a practical understanding of how the travel industry operates, from booking and itinerary planning to customer service and destination management.
Ques. What is the difference between the DTT (Diploma) and a full-time travel and tourism degree? Which is better for career prospects?
Ans. The DTT is a 1-year distance diploma that provides foundational knowledge and is ideal for quick entry into the travel industry or for those who cannot pursue full-time education. A full-time Bachelor's degree in Travel and Tourism (such as BTTM) offers a more comprehensive 3-year curriculum with internships and campus placements. For entry-level roles in travel agencies or tour operations, the DTT is sufficient. However, for managerial roles or positions in international tourism companies, a full-time degree or higher qualification would be more advantageous.
Ques. How do I get my study materials after taking admission? Is there any online support?
Ans. After successful admission and fee payment through the MPOnline portal, MPBOU dispatches the Self-Learning Material (SLM) to the student's registered postal address. The university also provides access to e-learning resources through its e-Adhyayan Saarthi platform. Students can visit their nearest MPBOU study centre (568 centres across MP) for academic guidance. It is important to keep your postal address updated in the admission portal to ensure timely delivery of study materials.
Ques. What are the career opportunities after completing the DTT from MPBOU? What is the average salary for entry-level roles?
Ans. After completing the DTT, graduates can work in travel agencies, tour operators, airlines (ground staff), hotels, cruise lines, and government tourism boards. Common entry-level job profiles include Travel Consultant, Tour Coordinator, Ticketing Executive, Tourism Officer (state government), and Hotel Front Desk Executive. Entry-level salaries in the travel and tourism sector in India typically range from Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 20,000 per month, depending on the employer and location. With experience and additional qualifications, professionals can advance to senior roles with significantly higher compensation.
