MANUU MA Persian FAQs
Ques. Is Persian as a subject mandatory at the undergraduate level to apply for MA Persian at MANUU?
Ans. Persian as a main or optional subject at the degree level is the preferred criterion for admission to MA Persian at MANUU. However, candidates with Urdu as a subject/language at 10th, 12th, or graduation level are also considered, especially those from Madrasa backgrounds with Arabic or Persian exposure. The university follows a preference-based merit system, so candidates with Persian as a main subject will be ranked higher, but those with allied subjects like Arabic or Urdu are not excluded. It is advisable to check the detailed preference criteria in the official prospectus before applying.
Ques. Is the medium of instruction for MA Persian at MANUU only Urdu, or can students write exams in English?
Ans. The primary medium of instruction and examination at MANUU for MA Persian is Urdu. This is a defining feature of the university, as MANUU was established specifically to provide higher education through the Urdu medium. Students from non-Urdu backgrounds may find it challenging initially, but the university's curriculum is designed to be accessible to those with Urdu proficiency. Students who have studied in Urdu-medium schools or madrasas will find the transition smooth. It is strongly recommended that applicants have a working knowledge of Urdu before enrolling.
Ques. What are the career options after completing MA Persian from MANUU?
Ans. Graduates of MA Persian from MANUU can pursue careers in several fields. Academic and teaching positions in schools, colleges, and universities (after qualifying UGC-NET in Persian) are the most common career paths. Other opportunities include working as translators and interpreters for government bodies, the Ministry of External Affairs, Iranian and Afghan embassies, and international organisations. Persian scholars are also in demand for manuscript research, archival work, and cultural heritage projects. Some graduates also find opportunities in tourism, publishing, and media related to Persian-speaking countries. Pursuing a PhD after MA opens doors to research fellowships and faculty positions.
Ques. Does MANUU offer hostel accommodation for MA Persian students, and is it easy to get a room?
Ans. MANUU has separate hostel facilities for boys and girls at its Hyderabad campus. Hostel accommodation is not guaranteed and is subject to availability. Priority is generally given to students coming from distant states. The annual hostel fee is approximately Rs. 1,200 for accommodation plus Rs. 1,000 for maintenance, with mess charges of around Rs. 1,800-2,000 per month. Students are advised to apply for hostel accommodation immediately after confirming admission, as seats are limited. The university has been noted by students for having a relatively affordable and functional hostel setup.
Ques. Can students from non-minority communities apply for MA Persian at MANUU?
Ans. Yes, MANUU is a central university open to all Indian citizens regardless of religion or community. While the university was established with a focus on Urdu-medium education and has a significant proportion of students from minority communities, there is no restriction on students from other communities applying for any programme including MA Persian. The admission process is merit-based and follows UGC reservation norms for SC/ST/OBC/EWS/PwD categories applicable to all central universities.
Ques. Is UGC-NET qualification required to get a teaching job after MA Persian, and how competitive is the NET exam for Persian?
Ans. Yes, UGC-NET qualification is mandatory for Assistant Professor positions in colleges and universities in India. The UGC-NET exam for Persian (Subject Code: 50) is conducted as part of the UGC-NET Phase 2 (typically in June each year). Persian is considered a relatively niche subject, which means the competition is lower compared to mainstream subjects like English or History, but the number of vacancies is also limited. MANUU's MA Persian curriculum is well-aligned with the UGC-NET syllabus, and students who study diligently have a good chance of clearing the exam. Many MANUU Persian graduates have successfully qualified NET and gone on to teaching careers.
