MANUU Certificate Urdu through English FAQs
Ques. I am an English-medium student with no prior knowledge of Urdu. Is this course suitable for me, and how is it taught?
Ans. Yes, this course is specifically designed for English-speaking learners who have no prior knowledge of Urdu. The Self-Learning Material (SLM) uses English as the medium of instruction to introduce Urdu script, vocabulary, grammar, and basic communication. The approach is structured to take a complete beginner from zero to a functional level of Urdu proficiency. The course covers Urdu script recognition, reading, writing simple sentences, and basic conversational Urdu, all explained through English.
Ques. What is the difference between this course and the Certificate in Functional English for Urdu Speakers offered by MANUU?
Ans. These are two distinct courses with opposite learning directions. The Certificate of Proficiency in Urdu through English is for English speakers who want to learn Urdu, using English as the teaching medium. The Certificate in Functional English for Urdu Speakers, on the other hand, is for Urdu speakers who want to learn English, using Urdu as the bridge language. Both are offered in distance mode by MANUU CDOE with the same fee structure and duration (6 months to 2 years).
Ques. Is the MANUU certificate in Urdu proficiency recognised for government jobs or competitive exams that require Urdu language knowledge?
Ans. Yes, MANUU is a Central University recognised by UGC, and its CDOE is approved by the Distance Education Bureau (DEB). The certificate is at par with those from other recognised universities. For government jobs that require Urdu language proficiency (such as certain state government posts, translation roles, or Urdu teacher positions), this certificate can serve as proof of Urdu language competency. However, candidates are advised to verify specific job requirements with the respective recruiting authority, as some posts may require higher qualifications like a Diploma or Degree in Urdu.
Ques. Do I need to visit the university campus in Hyderabad at any point during the course?
Ans. No, you do not need to visit the Hyderabad campus. The entire course is conducted in distance mode. Study material is sent to your address, and examinations are held at Learner Support Centres (LSCs) located across India in states like Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, and others. Assignments 2 and 3 are submitted at your allotted LSC. All administrative processes including admission, fee payment, and form submission are done online.
Ques. Can I pursue this course alongside my regular degree or job? Is there any attendance requirement?
Ans. Yes, this is one of the key advantages of this distance mode programme. There is no mandatory attendance requirement, and you can study at your own pace using the provided SLM. The course is designed for working professionals, homemakers, and students who cannot attend regular classes. The only mandatory activities are submitting assignments (which can be done online or at the LSC) and appearing for the end-term examination at the designated exam centre.
Ques. What career or academic opportunities does this certificate open up after completion?
Ans. The Certificate of Proficiency in Urdu through English is a foundational qualification that opens several pathways. It is useful for those seeking employment in Urdu journalism, translation, government departments with Urdu language requirements, and teaching. It also serves as a stepping stone for pursuing higher Urdu language qualifications such as the Diploma in Urdu, Advanced Diploma in Professional Arabic, or even a full B.A. or M.A. in Urdu from MANUU or other universities. Researchers, historians, and students of South Asian studies also find this course valuable for accessing Urdu-language primary sources.
