MANUU BA(IS) FAQs
Ques. Is BA Islamic Studies at MANUU only for Muslim students?
Ans. No, BA Islamic Studies at MANUU is open to all students regardless of religion, provided they meet the eligibility criteria (10+2 with 40% marks and Urdu as a subject/medium). However, the programme is primarily designed for students who wish to study Islamic theology, jurisprudence, and history in an academic setting. In practice, the vast majority of students enrolled are from Muslim backgrounds, particularly those transitioning from Madrasa education to mainstream university studies. Non-Muslim students with a scholarly interest in Islamic civilisation and thought are equally welcome.
Ques. What is the difference between the old 3-year BA Islamic Studies and the new 4YUG programme at MANUU?
Ans. MANUU has transitioned to the Four Year Undergraduate (FYUG) programme as per NEP 2020. The new 4YUG BA Islamic Studies spans 8 semesters and offers multiple exit options: a Certificate after 1 year, a Diploma after 2 years, a B.A. after 3 years, and a B.A. (Hons./Research) after 4 years. The older 3-year CBCS-based BA programme has been phased out for new admissions. The 4YUG programme also incorporates a Dual Major structure, allowing students to combine Islamic Studies with another discipline, which was not available in the older format.
Ques. How is the merit list prepared for BA Islamic Studies admission at MANUU through CUET?
Ans. MANUU prepares its merit list for all BA (Hons./Research) programmes, including Islamic Studies, solely based on the score obtained in the General Aptitude Test (Paper Code 501) of CUET UG. Candidates must also mandatorily appear in Urdu (Paper Code 113). The domain-specific Islamic Studies paper is not required for MANUU admission. This is a critical point that many applicants miss - you do not need to select the Islamic Studies domain paper in CUET to get admission to this programme at MANUU.
Ques. What career options are available after completing BA Islamic Studies from MANUU?
Ans. A BA Islamic Studies degree from MANUU opens pathways in Islamic education (teaching at Madrasas and Islamic schools), civil services (UPSC/State PSC with optional Islamic Studies paper), research (MA Islamic Studies followed by PhD), Urdu journalism, translation, and roles in Islamic organisations and NGOs. Graduates can also pursue B.Ed. to become school teachers or appear for NET/SET to become college lecturers. MANUU's Residential Coaching Academy (RCA) provides free coaching for civil services to selected students, which is particularly beneficial for Islamic Studies graduates who wish to appear for UPSC with Islamic Studies as an optional subject.
Ques. Can Madrasa graduates apply for BA Islamic Studies at MANUU?
Ans. Yes, Madrasa graduates are explicitly eligible for admission to BA Islamic Studies at MANUU, provided their Madrasa is recognised by MANUU and the medium of instruction was Urdu. MANUU maintains a list of recognised Madrasas on its website. Madrasa graduates who have completed the equivalent of 10+2 (such as Alim or Fazil courses) with at least 40% marks are eligible. This makes MANUU one of the most accessible central universities for Madrasa graduates seeking to transition to mainstream higher education while continuing their study of Islamic sciences.
Ques. Is the BA Islamic Studies programme at MANUU available at campuses other than Hyderabad?
Ans. Yes, the 4YUG BA (Hons./Research) programme, which includes Islamic Studies as a subject combination, is available at MANUU's satellite campuses in Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), Bhopal, Darbhanga, Falaknuma, Varanasi, and Nuh, with 30 seats at each campus. The fee structure at satellite campuses is lower than the Hyderabad campus (Semester 1 fee at Lucknow campus is Rs. 650 compared to Rs. 1,750 at Hyderabad). Students should confirm the availability of specific Dual Major combinations at their preferred campus before applying, as not all combinations may be offered at every campus.
