IILM BA Economics FAQs
Ques. Is Mathematics required for BA Economics?
Ans. Mathematics at Class 12 is preferred because the honours course covers econometrics, statistics and quantitative methods. Students without it may still apply, but they should be ready to strengthen their numerical skills early, since these underpin much of the later coursework. The programme introduces mathematical and statistical tools in a structured way during the first year, so a motivated student from any stream can cope, provided they are comfortable working with numbers and logical reasoning. Students from commerce or science streams usually adapt quickly, and the faculty provide foundational support in the early semesters to help others build the mathematical confidence the honours course requires.
Ques. What careers follow this degree?
Ans. Graduates work in data and business analytics, banking, market research, consulting support and economic-policy roles. The quantitative training is also a strong base for a master’s in economics, finance or public policy, and for competitive examinations. Because economics combines analysis with communication, graduates fit research, journalism and development-sector roles too, and many use the degree as a launch point for an MBA or a career in financial services.
Ques. How long is the programme and what does it total?
Ans. It is a four-year honours degree with a research component in the final year. The total tuition is INR 8,00,000, payable in equal annual instalments, with hostel charges billed separately if a student chooses campus accommodation. The first three years build the economics core and quantitative skills, while the fourth year centres on a supervised dissertation and advanced electives, giving students a research credential that supports direct doctoral entry.
Ques. Are scholarships available for this course?
Ans. Yes. The IILM Merit Scholarship can waive up to full tuition for strong Class 12 or entrance results. Early bird and sports concessions add further savings, and education loan assistance is available for families who need financing support. The waivers are linked to academic performance, so students who maintain strong results through the programme are generally well placed to retain their concessions across the four years of study.
Ques. Does the course include practical analytics training?
Ans. Yes. Students learn statistical software and data tools alongside theory, applying them in projects on real economic problems. This applied focus helps graduates qualify for analytics and research internships during and after the programme. Skills such as handling datasets, building models and interpreting results are increasingly demanded across finance, consulting and policy, so the hands-on component is a key strength of the honours economics curriculum at the Greater Noida campus.
Ques. How important is CUET-UG for admission?
Ans. CUET-UG is accepted and can support a stronger application, but it is not compulsory. Class 12 merit and the personal interview carry the main weight in selection, so candidates without a CUET-UG score can still gain admission on merit. During the interview the faculty look at quantitative aptitude, interest in current economic issues and clarity of reasoning, so preparing to discuss basic economics and recent events helps applicants make a good impression. Candidates who can explain why they chose economics, and how they hope to use a quantitative degree, generally come across as more focused than those who rely on memorised definitions during the conversation with the faculty panel.
