Distinctive features of this programme include:

a) School of Classics

Study of Greek and Roman antiquity through a variety of media and kinds of evidence, particularly literary texts (in translation) and visual art. Students can expect to have the opportunity to engage with a number of specialist topics, including major genres of poetry and important areas of social life, religion, philosophy and art in antiquity.

b) School of History

Chronological depth (from post-Roman history to the late Middle Ages) and geographical breadth (with a European focus but also encompassing South America, Byzantine history and Iran). Students can expect to have the opportunity to engage with a number of specialist topics including for example the cult of Saints, medieval queenship or medieval law.
