  • A First-class (GPA 3.7–4.0) or strong upper second-class (GPA 3.5–3.69) undergraduate degree with honours (minimum 68% overall and 68% for the dissertation) in a relevant humanities or social sciences discipline.

Alternative Background

  • Preferred Degree: Previous degree in history, economic history, or economics is normally expected.
  • Alternative Degrees: Candidates with degrees in other subjects may be accepted. If they link proposed dissertation topic to previous expertise or explain interest in switching to history.

Country Specific Requirement

For a Strong Upper Second-Class Undergraduate degree:

  • 4-year Degree: 60% (prestigious institutions) or 70% (others).
  • 3-year Degree: 65% (prestigious) or 70% (others).
  • Minimum GPA on Different Scale: (3.3/4.0), (5.0/7.0), (6.0/8.0), or (8.0/10.0).

For a First-Class Undergraduate Degree:
