Academic Qualification

• A-Level: BBB (Grade B in three A-Level subjects) including Biology and one from:
  • Chemistry (preferred).
  • Geography.
  • Mathematics, or Physics + GCSE Chemistry B or GCSE Double Award Science BB + GCSE Mathematics C.
• Alternative A-Level: Requirement ABB (Grade A in one A-Level subject & Grade B in two other A-Level subjects) including Biology + GCSE Chemistry B or GCSE Double Award Science BB + GCSE Mathematics C.
• Irish Leaving Certificate: H3 (H3 = 70-79% in Irish Leaving Certificate Higher Level) in Biology and one from:
  • Chemistry (preferred).
  • Geography.
  • Mathematics, or Physics + O3 in Chemistry & O4 in Mathematics (if not taken at Higher Level).
  • where, O3 = 60-69%, O4 = 50-59% (Irish Leaving Certificate in Ordinary Level).
• Access/Foundation Course: 120-credit Science-based Access Course with 80% average, no less than 70% in any module, and GCSE Mathematics C/4 or equivalent.
• BTEC Level 3 Extended/National Extended Diploma: DDD (DDD = Distinction, Distinction, Distinction in BTEC) + GCSE Chemistry B/6 or GCSE Double Award Science BB/6,6 + GCSE Mathematics C/4.
• BTEC Specified Units (Distinction Required): Principles of Applied Science I & II + Two From:
  • Biological Molecules & Metabolic Pathways.
  • Genetics & Genetic Engineering.
  • Diseases & Infections.
  • Microbiology & Microbiological Techniques.
• GCSE Requirement (All Applicants): English Language C/4 + Mathematics C/4.
• HNC (Higher National Certificate): 1 Distinction + remainder Merits.
• HND (Higher National Diploma):
  • Stage 2 Entry: 2 Distinctions + remainder Merits in final year (if relevant).
  • Stage 1 Entry: Merits in all units.
• Additional Considerations: Offers based on three A-levels, but two A-levels + two AS levels or BTEC combinations are considered. Repeat candidates may require one higher grade.
