Course Curriculum

8

  • The course is definitely a good exposure specially for students interested in buiseness aspect and synthetic biotechnology. Students focused on a PhD and with previous exposure from UK universities do have a better edge.
  • Since the course has optionals available, classes can vary 4 to 5 times a week, with good experience of Labs and industrial visits present throughout the course.

Admission Experience

  • I was personally driven by univeraity reputation, academic bona fides of proffesors and a very customizable course structure that included business studies along with lab exposure, a perfect balance.

Faculty

10

  • The faculty-to-student ratio is amazing, as most courses had 10 to 15 students, and if they had discussions, we would have an RA along with professors helping in Labs and study discussions
  • Dr Andrew Free, our course coordinator, was a great help throughout the course. Always helping students with issues around academics and later with providing LOR for most of us. Incredible support alongside his subjects.

Campus Life

8

  • The campus is spread along the beautiful city, especially in the old town, which feels dreamy. The buildings are mostly accesible and the infrastructure is heritage from out but extremely modern from within. Lab facilities are well equipped, with only a few extracurricular activities, such as weekly socials and ceilidhs at the end of the semester.
  • The university offers over 100 clubs that one can join. Welcome week is never miss event and is a great way to begin social and university life. The university has its own complex of gym, 24/7 main library, and each school has its own personal libraries, numerous cafes, shops around campuses, and lively bustling university areas.

Part Time Jobs

  • There are quite a lot of opportunities within the campus and outside. Edinburgh is a big city to be in and has amazing partime opportunity, including zero-hour contract jobs that help with a hectic schedule. Campus jobs can be tricky to get as they have recruitment drives rarely.

Placement

2

  • Local students mostly proceeded to do a PhD and higher education, while some procured a job. I do not know any international student who actually secured a sponsored job through my contact. Those who did either had previous experience in the UK or were citizens or from countries with trade relations and did not need a visa. But this is exclusively for the course I studied.
  • Other university students have amazing placements with a salary above 30000 GBP /annum. I know individuals who did get higher placement almost immediately after the degree.

Accommodation

Off Campus
8

  • I was given University accomodation Called Ascham Court, which was a nice, comfortable accomodation near the main campus along the meadows. It had better privacy that flat like accomodations.
  • Total yearly rent was 9350 for a year of stay. I do know there are plenty of private accommodations around the city as well.

Exams

  • IELTS is needed, along with a Statement of Purpose, 2 LOR, CV, and academic marksheets from 10th till university final year, along with a degree certificate or final year marksheet.
  • My IELTS was 8, required to have at least 7 in each section along with a distinction in bachelors degree. Rest is dependent on LOR and SOP

Fees

  • 36000 GBP was my tuition for a full year and included all the visits, lab fee, and dissertation expences nothing was paid post that.
