What Students Say?
Likes
- I like the fact that the university is based around the city, there’s so much to see and experience, the people are nice and the professors really know what they’re teaching and keep up with the latest in the industry.
Dislikes
- In terms of employability, there was a difference, the home students were given help from the beginning while international students were not, they basically had a different course altogether for home students which had compulsory summer internships facilitated by the university. While international students had nothing of that sort.
- The help we received from professors on our course compared to home students on their course was extremely different. We did get jobs, but only based on our skills, the networking we did and based on our previous experience.
My overall experience was okayish. I wouldn’t say it was amazing. I chose the university because it was advertised very conceptually saying it was next to the BBC and the media scene in Cardiff was vibrant. I accepted the offer based on the ranking, the accessibility in the city, and the scope to learn and use my skills. I chose the programme because it was the only available one for international students in terms of journalism.
Course Curriculum
The curriculum was good, it had all the aspects. Wouldn’t say it is the latest. No industrial exposure and just a small bit of research when it came to dissertation.
Exams
- There are no special requirements, you get through with 7 in IELTS, if they ask you which is rare. - 9.4 CGPA in CBSE 10th Grade, 84% in 12th Grade, Mysore University- BA 8.4 GPA - Requirements: I had to submit a SOP. I was not asked for LOR or an interview because of my previous experience. However, some of my classmates did submit LORs and give interviews. I’ve heard that they usually chat about journalism in the latest sense, your vision for media and journalism with the course and so on.
Placement
No, companies visit people on my course. In my batch 2 students got jobs including me out of 25, it was maybe the same as the previous year and the year before that was maybe 0. My salary is 34000£ and my friend makes 30,000£
Fees
17000£
Faculty
Janet who teaches field reporting, and warzone journalism is excellent, real-life examples from her during her time are incredible resources. The whole teaching team is well-versed and incredible.
Campus Life
Campus life is very good, with top-notch infrastructure, very good societies, and events regularly hosted by the student union. The nightlife is vibrant, a lot of tours by the SU as well.
Hostel
500£ per month, studio all bills were included during my UNI, now I rent a flat for myself and it is 1000£ without bills. Student accommodations are usually good, and all bills are covered but once you get out of UNI it’s hard to find houses because they ask you for a guarantor or ask you if they have a job when you’ve just got out of UNI which makes it hard and if you don’t have any of these you have to pay rent in advance for the whole agreement term.
