Sweden Visa Process for International Students

International students enrolled in a program of longer than three months duration are required to apply for a Sweden student visa (referred to as Sweden Residency Permit) through the Swedish Migration Agency’s website.

As part of the visa process, students have to submit the following documents:

  • Essay on “Why you want to study in Sweden?”
  • Academic transcripts of previously completed qualifications
  • Copy of valid passport along with two passport-size photographs
  • Proof of financial support in the form of bank statement, sponsorship letter
  • Letter of Acceptance from Stockholm University

Nepal

School Leaving Certificate (Grade XI & XII after 2017), Intermediate Certificate, Higher Secondary Certificate or Proficiency Certificate.
Documents required: Officially issued School Leaving Certificate Examination (Grade XI & XII), Higher Secondary Academic Transcript with all subjects and grades + Provisional Certificate, Intermediate Certificate Examination or Proficiency Certificate (Academic Transcript).

Stockholm University Undergraduate Admissions

International students are currently offered only four English taught undergraduate programs at Stockholm University, of which one is available in only distance learning mode. These fours programs are:

  • Latin American Studies with Specialization in Spanish
  • Latin American Studies with Specialization in Portuguese
  • International Business and Politics
  • Earth Sciences (Distance learning)

Stockholm University Graduate Admissions

Over 75 masters programs are available at Stockholm University, all with English as the language of instruction. The master's programs comprise one or two years of full-time studies that correspond to 60 or 120 credits respectively.

Stockholm University admissions office ensures that the admission process is conducted smoothly and without any discrepancies. All the submitted applications are reviewed holistically- from academic scores to the applicant’s extracurricular activities, from language test scores to work experience, everything is taken into consideration. While the university tries to announce admission decisions at the earliest, the notification is released generally in around 3-4 weeks after the submission of the application.

Ques. What are the upcoming deadlines for Stockholm University admissions?

Ans. The university is now conducting admissions for Spring 2023. Since admission applications are invited in two rounds, there are two deadlines- August 15 (Round I) and October 15 (Round II). 
International students are recommended to apply for admission in Round I, which is currently ongoing. The application process for Round II will begin from September onwards.

Ques. Does the university offer any preparatory English language course, if a student is unable to fulfill the language requirement?

Ans. No, unfortunately, the university doesn’t offer any English language course/certificate at present. If you want to be considered for admission, you must have at least Sweden English level 6 proficiency.

Ques. Is the GMAT/GRE score mandatory for all postgraduate level business programs?

Ans. Submission of GMAT or GRE score is not an essential part of the university’s eligibility criteria. Rather it is a way of enhancing the chances of your selection to the applied business program.
In previous years, it is observed that due to n number of qualified applications, the selection committee tends to favor applicants with a good GMAT/GRE score.

Ques. Are there any Stockholm University scholarships available for international students?

Ans. Presently, the university offers one scholarship program to international students- the Stockholm University scholarship scheme. This scholarship will contribute towards the tuition fees only, all the other expenses of traveling and staying in Sweden are to be borne by the recipients only.

Ques. Can I defer my studies at Stockholm University​ to 2023 due to COVID 19 outbreak?

Ans. The Swedish government and Stockholm University have specific guidelines regarding the grounds of deferral- medical situation, legal situation, or other severe situations making it impossible to commence studies. Since classes are conducted in online mode, the university doesn’t consider coronavirus a reasonable ground for deferral. 

Ques. What is the Swedish National Aptitude Test? Is it mandatory for undergraduate program applicants at Stockholm University​?

Ans. Swedish National Aptitude Test is a standardized test required to secure admission in all universities in Sweden. Yes, it is mandatory for all the students to take this test. Undergraduate applicants seeking admission at Stockholm University must secure at least 33% in the aptitude test.

Ans. Detailed planning for instruction in spring 2023 is done by the departments. Planning for the first half of the spring term should be communicated to the students via the department’s website as soon as possible, and on 15 December at the latest.

Ans. Some of the courses and programs with places available will be open for late application on 15 July at www.universityadmissions.se. The selection of available places among the eligible applicants who submit late applications will be based on the date of submission of the application.

Ques. What documents do I need to submit at Stockholm University​?

Ans. In order to document your eligibility, you must provide a copy of your previous study information to the University Admissions in Sweden and document your English proficiency. All documents should be forwarded to the university admissions office in Sweden.
