Stockholm University Application Deadlines for Indian Students

Stockholm University Eligibility

SU Master’s Eligibility 

• Academic: 3-or 4-year bachelor’s in a related subject; 60% or second-class upper
• ECTS: At least 180 ECTS overall, usually including 90 ECTS in the main subject
• English: IELTS 6.5 (minimum 5.5 per band), TOEFL iBT 90 (writing 20), PTE 62 (writing 61) or Cambridge C1 Advanced 180+
• Prerequisites: Quantitative programmes require relevant coursework in statistics, mathematics, or econometrics

Is There an IELTS Waiver at Stockholm University?

An English-medium instruction certificate from an Indian school or university does not meet Sweden’s English-language requirement. Indian applicants provide an accepted IELTS, TOEFL, PTE, or Cambridge English score unless they qualify for a specific exemption. Recognised exemptions include certain bachelor’s degrees from EU/EEA countries or Switzerland with 60 ECTS credits in English, and qualifications from 17 specified African countries. Stockholm University Acceptance Rate

Stockholm University does not officially disclose an overall acceptance rate. Third parties place the rate at 20% to 40%, although this figure should be treated as indicative rather than confirmed. Stockholm University Documents Required

Sweden Student Visa Process

Indian students planning to stay in Sweden for more than 3 months must apply for a residence permit for studies rather than a short-stay Schengen visa. The Swedish Migration Agency (Migrationsverket) processes the application once students have received their admission confirmation and paid the required first tuition instalment.

The required documents include the Stockholm University admission letter, proof of the first tuition payment, valid health insurance for stays shorter than 1 year, and evidence of sufficient funds. For eligible stays of at least 1 year, Stockholm University arranges FAS+ insurance at no additional cost. Applicants also demonstrate financial resources of at least SEK 10,584 (INR 1.02 lakhs) per month, and pay a SEK 1,500 (INR 14,475) application fee. Processing times vary, so apply as early as possible after completing the tuition payment.

2026 update: Applicants prepared to demonstrate sufficient funds for the entire first year of study when submitting their residence permit application, rather than only the first semester. Indian students arrange suitable bank statements or an approved education loan sanction letter in advance, in line with Migrationsverket’s current financial documentation requirements.
