Singapore Student Visa Requirements for Indian Students

International students planning to study full-time in Singapore for more than 30 days must obtain a Student Pass. Unlike many countries, Singapore does not issue a separate student visa. The Student Pass is issued by the Singapore Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) and is required for studying at universities such as NUS, NTU, SMU, SIT, and other approved institutions.

The process begins after receiving an admission offer from a Singapore institution. Once admitted, the university will provide instructions for submitting a Student Pass application through the Student's Pass Online Application & Registration (SOLAR) system. After the application is approved, students receive an In-Principle Approval (IPA) letter, which allows them to travel to Singapore and complete the final formalities before collecting their Student Pass.

Documents commonly required for a student pass application include:

  • Admission or registration letter from the institution
  • Valid passport and biodata page copy
  • Recent passport-size digital photograph
  • Birth certificate (if requested)
  • Educational background details
  • Financial support information
  • Residential address in Singapore

Note: Students should begin the Student Pass process only after receiving a confirmed admission offer from a Singapore institution. The university generally guides applicants through the SOLAR registration process.

FAQs

Ques. Is Singapore a good option for Indian students compared to the US/UK/Canada?

Ans. Yes, especially for quality education, safety, short flight time (4–5 hours from India), and strong job opportunities in Asia. NUS and NTU are globally top-ranked. Living costs are high but overall more affordable than the US/UK, with good ROI in STEM and business fields.

Ques. How difficult is it for Indian students to get into NUS or NTU?

Ans. Very competitive (low acceptance rates for popular courses). Top students with 92–97%+ in boards, strong co-curriculars, and leadership profiles succeed. Many Indian students get in, but it requires consistent high performance.

Ques. How is student life and racism for Indian students in NUS/NTU?

Ans. Generally safe, clean, and multicultural with a large Indian community. Indian food and festivals are easily available. Outright racism is rare, though some experience subtle cultural adjustments.

Ques. How Indian-friendly is the food and culture in Singapore universities?

Ans. Very friendly. Plenty of Indian restaurants, vegetarian options, and South/North Indian food on/near campus. Indian student associations and festivals like Diwali are well-supported.

Ques. Is an MBA in Singapore (NUS/NTU/SMU) worth it for Indians?

Ans. Yes, for Asia-focused careers. High rankings, strong networking in a business hub, and good ROI. Requires 2+ years of work experience for top programs. Fees are around SGD 80k–100k.

Ques. How good are job prospects after graduating from NUS/NTU for Indian students?

Ans. Strong, especially in tech, finance, engineering, and research. Many secure roles in Singapore or return to India with good packages. Post-study work is possible but competitive; PR is challenging.
