Course Curriculum Overview
I would rate the curriculum 3.5 out of 5 . The major con is that the curriculum in Government law College Thiruvananthapuram is solely made for litigation in the court . There is less scope for corporate level studies. Curriculum is up to date and I personally think that several other act should be added for real world application like insurance law , narcotics abkari act are not included. Exams are usually on time comparing to other universities in Kerala still it's not conducted nearly after the semester ends
Fees and Financial Aid
Government law college Thiruvananthapuram is one the cheapest college to study law in the country. The fees in government law college Thiruvananthapuram for intergrated BA LLB and unitary LLB is almost same , usually it would be around ?3000-4000. The fees structure varies according the year in which a student is currently studying. If you are new student you will be paying around 10000 rupees at first while taking admission. It includes admission fees, caution deposit, PTA fund ,library fees ,sports fees etc.. . There are various scholarship schemes under state government central government ,minorities department, backward classes department etc .This scholarships can be availed by the eligible candidates. Several eligible candidates also avails e-grantz from the state government. Almost told students have the same fees except for the students belonging to SC/ST and e-grantz holders who has fee concession. Exam fees for each semester shall be around ?950 for each semester likewise before the eligible candidates are can avail fee concession for the same. The overall fee for five years will be around 17000 rupees.
Campus Life
The main events that are conducted in Government law College Thiruvananthapuram are the moot court competition, MUN competition ADR competition etc. this competitions are inter Collegiate level. Several students from other colleges all over India usually participate in these competitions. Moot court competition conducted by GLC Thiruvananthapuram is one of the popular moot court competitions in the state. Our MUN teams are the best in kerala. We had achieved several overall trophies conducted in other MUN competitions. Several other programs such as freshers day, Onam celebration, Christmas celebration, Kerala piravi are conducted by the student political wings and students union in the campus. Government law College Thiruvananthapuram library is one of the best law library in the state. Almost books are accessible by student except for some book can be only accessible to research scholars and pg students. Classrooms are good but they don't have any smart classes. Sports and extra curricular activities are less encouraged by the the college authorities. but several achievements are held by our students in sports and arts in various competition held in university level and States zone levels. There are several clubs in the campus made by the student union which includes sports club, fine arts club, music club ,dance club , photography club literature club etc.. but not all the clubs are active but still there are several clubs which are active and has contributed in various program held in college.
Hostel Facilities
Ladies hostel are provided inside the campus. For men you can avail government college's hostel for men palayam which is around 1.5km away from the campus provided by kerala University. Or else there are several private PG accommodation near the campus., it would cost around 6k to 8k per month on average including food. For those who avail hostel facilities by the college the food quality is average and it also includes non vegetarian and vegetarian menu.
Admission
I got admissions in Kerala law academy Thiruvananthapuram and SDM law College manglore. I personally like a government law college more than the above mentioned colleges because of the Liberty and the campus life they provide unlike SDM law College which is strict government law college will be a Heaven for anyone who want to explore campus life. While in Kerala academy the fee is high as well as the management is known to be worst. The admission process for Government law College Thiruvananthapuram is through Kerala law entrance examination conducted each year by the state government. Candidates will be admitted through allotment process by CEE kerala. KLEE 5 year can be written by all those candidates who have passed in 12th standard with not less than 50% mark.
Faculty
Faculty members of the government law college Thiruvananthapuram are one of the best faculties in kerala. Most of them are highly qualified and experienced than any other teachers in other colleges. They are recruited through kerala PSC. For almost 800 student there are a total of almost 20 teachers All most all the faculties are best in teaching and they have indepth knowledge of the subject which they are teaching and they do assist in every sorts of academic matters such as moot , court work, adr etc. Viji sir, hameema ma'am, Priya ma'am,saji sir, Deepthi ma'am are one of the best faculties in our college. Teachers are pretty much friendly and approachable. They put the internal marks liberally and many of the students get their internal marks fairly. The only drawback that we face in faculties is that there is no mentoring on the students and most the days there won't much classes (only if u want it ) Coming to the exams for BALLB there are total of 41 papers for written exams in 5 years and 3 papers as practical papers. Exams are pretty much moderate. Even though if it's an easy examination it's difficult to score good marks as we expect. The average score in an examination would 58-60% and the toppers would have almost 75-78% on average.Almost 3 out 10 people fail to clear the exams. Many of the failed students manage to clear when the apply for revaluation on the failed paper. 5th semester is regarded as one of the toughest semester. Practical papers are pretty much easy and it's easy students usually score more than 85% average. Since it's an integrated course complimentary subjects such as politics, English and economics are also included. These subjects are there in the curriculum till 6th sem. Many students find economics in 2nd semester as difficult. First five semesters have 5 papers in total and for the rest of the sem 4 papers including practical papers . Total marks of a subject paper is of 100 marks of which 20 marks is given as internal marks.
Night Life
Government law College Thiruvananthapuram campus is small comparing to any other arts colleges thus there are not much any hangout spots. Swings and bikesheds are usually used by students as their hangout spots. There is no gyms in our college there is a volleyball net for sports activities. There is only hostel for ladies on campus. they have a curfew time from 9.30 pm till morning. Locality in which our college is situated is just average the back side of the college is not much safe for women at night. Rest of the areas are pretty much safe for women. Campus time is from 9:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
