What Students Say
Likes
- The Labs of aerospace engineering are very well equipped with jet engines and 2 wind tunnels (all in working condition)
- this has to be the major thing i like about academics, we have practical exposure unlike other colleges, there are various subjects where you are supposed to implement what you learn
- the exposure to different communities is what adds a cherry on top, we have crowd from other countries mainly form African subcontinent
Dislikes
- After the mid terms each semester we have a only 1.5 effectively for end terms and they have to finish half the portion so it gets a bit hectic
- the classes are some times having a huge gap such as 3 to 4 hrs in between which messes up the productivity
- hostels are very expensive: for apartment 2 seater ac it costs 160000 which is not worth it
Course Curriculum Overview
Course is very well structured offering a balance between theoretical knowledge and practical exposure. It covers fundamental subjects like Flight Mechanics, Aerodynamics, Propulsion, Strength of Materials. It also focuses on carrer with subjects like Analytical skills, Verbal ability, Soft skills etc. real world prep is also pretty much strong as they have many opportunities for projects, research papers, competions etc. Coming to improvements they teach us 3 programming languages (pythin,c,c++) but i feel they should teach only one and make the pupils have strong command in it. we have CAs which is continous assessments that are held every 3 to 4 weeks and they include 2 units each (3-4 CA in total per subject), after about 2 months into the sem we have our mid terms which include half the portion i.e., 3 units difficult.
Internships Opportunities
internships are not given direcctly by the college you have to get them yourself. But placement department helps with the referance and also sets you up with compainies. they provide Letter of Recommendation and No Objection Certificate without any problem
Placement Experience
students become eligible from 7th sem onwards. LPU does attract only a few aerospace companies such as TATA Advanced Systems, Air India , Spicejet. highest package was 12 LPA (Airbus but it was off campus). average package is 6 LPA. only 50 to 60% get placed others are either opting for higher studies or government jobs. Everyone is eligible to sit for placements if they have CGPA above 6. I personally would be persuing masters in AEROSPACE from abroad
Fees and Financial Aid
Being a student of LPU, there are a few things to be noted beforehand: fee does not increase over th duration of course and there is no reservation based on caste criteria. My tution fee per year is 1,20,000 and 8000 examination fee this is with a scholarship of 50 percent. my batchmates usually pay 1,44,000 per year as they have a scholarship of 40 percent.
Campus Life
Campus life is just 5 star, we have all the open space (800 acres of campus) with spectacular landscapes, there lot of events every now & then. students can also join clubs sch as Astrionics And hexagon Aerospace, along with organisations such as NSS and NCC. WE have One India which is held in march along with spectra held in october both of which are a culutral events One India i sthe biggest fest of LPU. Coming to sports, there are no limitations to it , you name it and this university has it you could say LPU is sports oriented university also we have and indoor complex where there is squash, shooting, olympic size swimming pool etc.
Hostel Facilities
Hostels are fine, neither bad nor good. they are pretty basic with accomodation form 16 seater dorm, 4seater, 2 room (2 rooms with a common washroom), a/c, non ac options in 4 seater, 3 seater,2 seater. all non ac opitons have coolers. additionally students can apt appartments also they are 2,3,4 seater all a/c with some pantry kind of area these cost 10k more than their A/C counterpart in hostel. Mess is pretty good there are lot of meal options available (only veg). registration is very easy after paying the 50 percent you can book your rooms. they also have laundry service which cost 5000/ year i personally suggest opt for laundry. I do not think they are affordable for instance 2 seater appartment A/C costs 160000 per year with mess food not included it is only for the room
Admission
The affordability fee is only 60k per sem. next it is one of the few colleges in india which have engines in their labs and also an aircraft (only iits have this facilities).these were the reasons i chose lpu. no i was not rejected from other colleges its just that they didnt have above mentioned qualities (VIT, Jain- bengaluru,AMITY). Admission in lpu is very easy, there are various wasy to get into it: Give lpunest exam (they also give scholarship on basis of this), they accept board (but LPUNEST is must)and jee marks also. For entry with board marks you need 60% with Maths, Physics, Chemistry for entry with LPUNEST it is subjected to cuttoff each year. I would suggest go with LPUNEST as scholarship can be recived very easily
Faculty
LPU usually maintains a healthy ratio of 1 faculty per 15/20 students so it usually 1:15. coming to approachability, faculties do not have any ego issues (only w.r.t aerospace department) and a pupil can visit their cubical at anytime between 9 to 5. The best faculties include Dr. Elaya Perumal (takes care of propulsion and space dynamics), Dr. Bilji C Mathew (aircraft maintenance), Dr. Amit Kumar Thakur (HOD of Aerospace engineering dept) Dr. Balaji Ravi(aerodynamics) these gentlemen have have excellent command over subject and vast knowledge they also make up a good mentor. Now, the EXAMS they are pretty much easy, we have continous assessment then mid terms then end terms which include 2 units, 3 units, 6 units respectively.
Night Life
Night LIfe here is pretty bad, there very strict rules in the campus and for girls they need to strictly adhere to hostel timings or they will have to pay fine, so just consider we have time till 6:30pm in winters and 8:00 pm in summers. outside the campus there are lot of areas which you should not be going into unless you want to drink or smoke rest all it is bad
