What Students Say
Likes
- I like laboratory equipment and hygiene the most.
- I like the fact that we have extra curricular activities like national and international seminars regularly.
- We have a fest called pharmacy week once every year, when many kinds of sports and activities will be held in the campus.
Dislikes
- Faculty are a little rude as it is not an autonomous college, they can be a little more student friendly.
- There is closed gates system which means, you cannot out of the college in college timings which i think is not necessary for college students, they should not be treated like school kids.
- We are not allowed inside the gates even if we are 15 minutes late, and we cannot attend the college from afternoon after lunch if we wish to, due to any emergencies. I do not think it is fair, students should be given some freedom.
Course Curriculum Overview
Healthcare and science is a field i always admired since i was a chil, pharmacy is a career which forms an integral part of the healthcare system, in my field, pharmacists learn a lot about formulation, manufacture and production of drugs, this the aspect that drove me to choose this course. In labs we have many experiments about the preparation and reactions of various drugs, i think this is an experience which prepares us for the real world when we work in the research and development field. I think that the syllabus of the course is designed very well, keeping in mind all the knowledge that we might require in this segment of healthcare, but teaching is a real problem. Even though the faculty are well educated and experienced they still are not able to break the conventional method of textbook teaching. After the start of the semester we have two internal theory exams and two internal lab exams with a gap of 2.5 months covering half of the syllabus completed at that time. And after the second internal, we have external theory(semester exams) followed by external lab exams, where we will be judged by faculty of other colleges as this college is not automous, it is affliated to Osmania University. The difficulty of the exams is moderately high as there are no objective papers, all the exams are subjective and timing of the exams is very hectic with the gap of only 2.5 months and a large syllabus to cover, the course curriculum can be improved in this aspect.
Fees and Financial Aid
I am studying the course Bachelor's in pharmacy and i got selected in this college through EAMCET counselling. I did not submit any income certificate for the benefit of fee reimbursement as my father is a central government employee. I was charged 72000 as tuition fee for the whole year, and as i travel in college bus i was charged 40000 for the transport facility. Apart from that in an academic year i was charged semester exam fee of around 2500 and breakage fee(laboratory breakage fee) of rupees 200 every semester. This was my case but my batchmates who sumitted an income certificate got the benefit of fee reimbursement and had to pay 46500 as tuition fee.
Campus Life
Campus life is something i am most disappointed about apart from faculty. We do not have any cultural activities, there is only one event anually, which is conducted with great difficulty. Principal does not approve of any ideas given by the students. There is no student association until now. There is one sports room which is very poorly maintained.
Admission
I got selected in this college through EAMCET counselling, i scored a rank of around 19000. This college is better than the other pharmacy colleges in Telangana as it has fully equipped with all modern technologies. And it is affiliated to Osmania University one of the well known and established university. My primary option was Gokaraju college of pharmacy, but i could not join as the cutoff for this college was around 12000 rank. The admission process through EAMCET is pretty simple, after getting the results you just have to apply for counselling and select the options of the colleges you want to join according to preference and when you get the alloted college, just just have to pay the tuition fee to block the seat in that particular college.
Faculty
Faculty is the thing i dislike the most about this college, they are very rude to students and parents as well including HOD and principle, there are only a very few faculty members who are student friendly, to whom we can actually reach out to for any help required, most of the faculty and rude and unapproachable. Most of the faculty just follow textbooks, blurt out whatever is written in the textbook on the blackboard, they do not make learning and teaching look fun and they do not make sure that every student in the class understood the lecture. And coming to the course structure, in an academic year we have two semesters(external theory) and two external lab exams at the stretch of 6 months each, in one subject there are 5 units of syllabus for a semester. And during the course of each semester we have 2 mid term exams(internal theory), and two lab internal exams with the gap of 2.5 months after the start of the semester, these exams are based on the first half and second half of the syllabus completed.
Night Life
College cafeterias and libraries close after college timings and there is pretty much no students in the college after college timings as the campus hostels are also outside the campus. There are pretty good hangout spots outside the campus for chilling and having good food and it is safe as it is in outskirts of the city and mostly only students live in that area.
