Remarks
The college was good initially and also had a very good reputation, but due to lack of proper faculty and technical facilities, it had brought the college a bad reputation. I believe that if proper faculty members are brought and the labs were made more technically advanced, then the college will shine again. Also there need to be established a proper department which will look into the problems of the students. Because these are the few things that we lacked and hoped for.
Entrance Preview
I had qualified in the OJEE. After clearing the round we needed to fill the preference for various colleges. After doing that I was called for counselling and document verification in Bhubaneswar. There I was informed that I had been allotted to NM Institute Of Engineering and College and the branch was Computer Science and Engineering.
Course Curriculum Overview
The practical knowledge needed to be the basic ones for our development was almost null. And even the teachers left had not enough knowledge, sometimes not even enough to solve our queries. We were made to do only theory part which I feel not enough to develop the skills of any student as without practicals or without implementing it live, there is no proper understanding of any subject.
Internships Opportunities
No internship was provided in our college. Even for pursuing any particular course, one needed to go to other institutes or centers.
Placement Experience
At the time of placement, there were around 20 companies that visited our college. But none of them were providing the students with proper package. One or two companies that visited our college were later found to be fake. We mostly were dependent on Off-Campus. Around 30% of the students were placed at the end, including both On-Campus and Off-Campus.
College Events
There were few events that we organised. We used to organize Annual Fest and Annual Sports Day at alternate years. Then sometimes we had our HPL,i.e. Hostel Premiere League.
Fee Structure And Facilities
There were no scholarship for any poor student. The college fees used to change almost every year. If I put it in figures, then the college fees was around 1 lac and the hostel fees along with the canteen fees was around 50k per annum. It was mandatory for one residing in the hostel to have meal in college canteen.
Fees and Financial Aid
There were no scholarship provided in our college. Neither did I avail any from the college side.
Campus Life
In the 4 years of journey, it was only twice that we had our extracurricular. Beside that, there were no such event. Even the campus was not that big enough for the students to play any games except Badminton or Volleyball.
Hostel Facilities
The college had both hostels, Girls and Boys hostel, within the campus itself. The room were good and there were enough space for those staying in hostels. But proper cleaning and sanitation was looked after. The floors and the bathrooms were cleaned regularly in the beginning, but later they were rarely cleaned. There were rooms with double and triple and also four beds. One residing in hostel had to eat in hostel canteen. And the meals provided was mostly horrifying. They lacked proper taste. The total fees for hostel was around 50k,inclusive of canteen fees, per annum.
Alumni/Alumna
There were very few times that we got a chance to have a proper interaction with our alumni. Still there were few who came and interacted with us and had told us about the ups and downs in their life and about their constant hard work and success. No matter what all of them were inspiring.
Exam Structure
Exams and labs were OK. Except the fact that we were not informed properly about what needed to be properly done in the labs. So,mostly, we used to practice our previous taught programs or algorithms.
Faculty
The faculty members were not provided with enough payment for their teaching. They asked for increment many times but that was not fulfilled. Subsequently, most of the teachers left the college and moved to other colleges. And then we were left with inexperienced teachers and those with not enough qualifications and knowledge. Not all teachers were interactive, still few were interactive as well as very helpful. Most of the teachers used to bring xerox of notes and just used to read it out to us, which was not at all enough for us to grasp it. And then they used to give us those notes and we were told to do a xerox copy for ourselves.
