Entrance Preview

DAV did not require the students to sit through any entrance examinations. There was only this interview conducted before the admissions. For me the interview didn't present any real challenge. It was quite a basic one. I came to know about the college from one of my seniors in school who had joined DAV. I chose this course because I like the subject, especially programming and want to make a career in the computer field. It is something which I think has a lot of scope, with so many technological advancements coming on everyday.

Course Curriculum Overview

4.5

Yes, I found the course to be really good. I love the subject and it has a nice curriculum which takes us through all the major topics which a Computer graduate needs to learn. Of course we are not made to focus on theory alone. That won't be well for our course. I think we had as much practical sessions, as theory classes and sometimes even more. There were practical sessions almost everyday, where we learned programming in detail. The college didn't take up any research initiatives. There were pretty limited electives to chose from and that's sad.

Internships Opportunities

The didn't encourage students much to take up on internships. Only few of my friends actually did any. There was nothing available inside the campus, anyway and most of them had work from home internships. The students who were interested in pursuing internships were provided pieces of advice when they approached the faculty. They did help by providing information on what kind of internships would be helpful for us in the course that we are doing and all that stuff. I wish they did have internships, though. It would have been an experience for us all.

Placement Experience

4.5

Placement Scenario in DAV was pretty good. Although the college did not attract all the top level multi nationals, there were some really great companies. All of the students apply for them. About 20 to 30 percent of the students who apply for placements got in with some company or the other. Some major recruiters were companies like TCS, Amazon, IBM, ICICI, Aon etc. I don't really know about the average package given. But I suppose it wasn't a really bad one with all these companies.

College Events

4.5

The college hasn't got too many events in the academic year. We also do not have occasion to organize as many fests as we would like to. The major ones are the Youth Festival and the Sports day. The former is an opportunity for us to engage in our artistic tastes such as dancing and music. These are all arranged with help from the management. There are funds too for these programs from the management's side.

Fee Structure And Facilities

DAV has a heavy fee structure, even in comparison. For the course I took the total fee was somewhere around 2 to 3 Lakhs. It is a very huge sum for a three year course, because it does not include anything like hostel fee or mess fee. I also found that they keep increasing it every year. It actually wasn't an easily affordable sum for everyone of my friends. The fee is fixed by the college management so there is nothing to complain about. Also this is a professional course so it is normal to have a heavy fee on it.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

Yes, the College does provide a Scholarship to those students who cannot afford the whole of the fees. They kind of share the fee responsibility with the students. I have some friends who have availed these facilities, but I wasn't eligible for one of these. The college doesn't help students in getting any loans. It is all upon us.

Campus Life

4.5

There is a separate sports Day in college which is an intra-collegiate competition. We have facilities to train ourselves in various kinds of sports like football, hockey, soccer, long-distance running, badminton et cetera during the after-school hours. The best part is that we get to do the adventurous outdoor activities like rock climbing, downhill skiing, and kayaking. It is all very exciting.

Hostel Facilities

4

I didn't stay in a hostel. So I don't personally know much about the hostel accommodations. There are a few students in my class who stay in PGs outside of the college campus. They do not talk greatly of the stay there and the food is only just tolerable because there is a lot of repetition of the same stuff several times in a week. In total, hostels are not really great around here.

Alumni/Alumna

We had interactive sessions with alumni. It was really helpful in my studies. I got to talk to some students who had passed out of my college about the career option available after college. They helped me to move with some focus towards getting a job.

Exam Structure

The exams are not conducted frequently at all. I guess you could actually call it a chill culture. For me, the exams were a means to gauge my abilities and knowledge. It doesn't stress out or exhaust me in any way. I was free most of the time to pursue my interests outside study too and enjoyed the college life.

Faculty

4.5

The DAV actually has a good faculty. They are all well-qualified and has a lot of experience. It is really nice to have such supportive teachers. They all encourage us to learn the subject well. It is not just a classroom study, we actually have all kinds of discussions. They all keep themselves updated on the technological changes so it benefits us extra. They are pretty supportive in all academic related stuff and are approachable anytime during class. I did consult them myself a few times for clarifications on topics and it helped me learn better.
