Remarks
Government polytechnic Hamirpur was established in 1963. There are five branches in this institute which are - Computer engineering IT Civil engineering Mechanical engineering Electrical engineering The infrastructure is quite good and there is a big playground. I applied for a Computer engineering diploma and the teachers were good and quite helpful. There are computer labs where you can do programming and apply your coding skills. Eligibility:-- Students after 10th and 12th can apply for this institute. You should have a minimum of 75 percent on the 10th and 12th. Students after 12 can apply through the Leet exam through which you can get direct admission in the 2nd year in diploma classes. I didn't have any entrance exam due to COVID so we were selected on the basis of percentages of 10 and 12.
Course Curriculum Overview
I choose CSE because we had Java as a programming subject from the 5th standard in our school. Also, I had an interest in programming languages so it was really good to choose CSE as my course here. Faculty:- The faculty is pretty good all the teachers explain everything clearly. We have theory classes and practical classes. Our class consisted of 43 students. All the teachers are helpful and they can guide you clearly on everything. Qualification of faculty:- All the teachers are well educated and most CSE teachers have excellent coding skills. The teaching method is quite good as sometimes the teacher teaches with the help of a projector which makes it quite easy to understand and develop programming skills. Exams:-- As I belong to CSE the exams were quite easy to pass if you study well. You need a minimum of 40 marks to pass the exams and everyone can score that if you study nicely, otherwise you will get detained and then you will have to wait for one year to come back to the same semester.
Loan/ Scholarship Provisions
Fees:- The fees are quite low if you are a day scholar, And it costs you around 8200 rupees approximately per semester. The hostel cost you around 4500 rupees per 6 months and 2000 rupees extra for the mess bill. The Students are totally allowed to be out of the hostel after 10 pm but there are many rooms and PGs available if you don't want the hostel facility. Scholarship:-- There are many scholarships available in the institute like NSIGSE and pre-matric and post-matric schemes for SC AND OBC OR BACKWARD CLASSES. In case you are handicapped then other scholarships are available and financial assistance is given. And if you are the topper for all the years then you are given a cash prize. Campus placement:- The campus placements are quite low as most students refuse placements as they want to apply for BTECH COURSE. This time over 7 students got selected for placements In the CSE course, 30 students in mechanical engineering, 2 in IT, and 12 in electrical engineering.
Campus Life
There were no annual fests when I was in the course due to corona but the annual function takes place in June and the Sports meet during February or March. Availability of Books:-- There are many books available in the library and you can have any book if you have a library card. Once you have the card you can take any book related to your course or any other. Classrooms:-- The classrooms are quite huge but they are white colored which makes the class look dull. Every class has a whiteboard and green board for teaching students. Sports:- Students in the first year have a sports period and there are many sports like basketball, football, and badminton. There is a basketball court before the institute and a big ground right after the institute is built there are no sports for 2nd and 3rd-year students.
