DR.SANMATI POL's Review On MGM Medical College, Navi Mumbai

Overall it was very good experience. I am doing post graduation and i miss my college a lot. UG college always remains special in your heart.

I always wanted to be a doctor. I mean MBBS and not a dentist. I gave all entrance examinations govt, all india CET and there is one more CET called associate CET which is there only for private colleges i scored 124/200 in that exam. which was very less. thus took a BDS course.In the first round i did not get in any of the colleages. But in second i could manage to get in kolhapur. As i stay in mumbai i wanted some college in mumbai only. finally in third round i got admitted in MGM dental college. The people can give CETs for deamed universities also but the fee structure is very in those colleges and plus the quality of education also differs. The colleges which comes under associate CET they come under nashik university,

The course was really good.the duration is of 5years. four years for academics and one year of internship. In first year there are 3 subjects. anatomy,physiology and biochemistry combined and dental anatomy and dental histology. for practicals we had to study in anatomy all the hard tissue and soft tissue including a bit of general histology then physiology we had to learn general examination,taking Blood pressure,respiratory measuring heamoglobin,bleeding time and clotting time. it was fun. and for DADH we had to carve all teeth on wax blocks to understand the anatomy of all teeth. then second year pharamacology,microbiology and general pathology was combined and dental materials subjects were there. in third year,general medicine,general surgery,oral pathology then from final year we had only dental subjects such as oral medicine and radiology,oral surgery,pedodontics and preventive dentistry,orthodontics,prosthodontics,community dentistry,periodontology,endodontics. and internship we took a clinical experience of all these subjects

Internship experience was really amazing. when we got to know our fellow colleagues in a better. Cause there was so much to learn and so little we used to arrange all college festival week in internship attanted so many conferences presented posters and papers. Roamed around a memorable experience i must say. We used get only 1k a month as a stipend.

It depends upon what you want to do. like if you open your own clinic then after few months you can earn a good amount of money. But dont open your clinic after immediately passing out. take some clinical experience at least for a month. And then only open a clinic that would be beneficial. or one can do several courses.

We used to have a college week once a year in the month of feb. Mostly at the end of feb. which was organised by the interns. There is main core committee all the decisions. layout was decided i was a proud member of student council.

Per year 1.8 lac fee structure. was there some students couldnt afford so loan facilities are also available. Plus i was from category. So i din pay anything as i had a free ship. that fee was free for me. I just 17k initially that i got 10k was a deposit which i will get after finishing my course.

There is a free ship which is available only for category people and also scholarships are available for those who score more than 60% at the end of every. But you need to apply for that. So that is quite helpful.

All these extracurricular activities were conducted in the college week itself. So it was like fun festival. we used to have special days on that week. like traditional days. corporate days and all the sports, dance competition we used to have.

As i was localite i dont know much about the hostel life. But as far as i have heard. there was some water problem. and mess food is a messy food. you take any college. mess food is the same.

As i wanted to prepare for entrance examinations for post grad. I took help from my seniors. Like what to read. how to prepare. it helped a lot. also during the course our seniors gave good direction.

Every year one has to there internal exams practical theory both. 2 normal exams and one was prelims which was conducted just before the university exams. the university exams usually held in may-june.

Faculty was really good,very helpful in each and every subject. We used to to medical college for attending medical lectures and practicals there also the staff was very helpful. for general medicine and general surgery we had our postings in the ward. where we used to interact with the the patients with one on one basis. all the medical residents and medical interns used to help the diagnose the conditions.
