THE BEST AMONG THE BESTS

I applied to two colleges which are MMM College of Health Sciences and The Sankara Nethralaya Academy for the same course (MSc MLT). There was no response from MMM College of Health Sciences, but within a week of applying, I got a call from The Sankara Nethralaya Academy and the interview was scheduled. During the interview, I was asked questions related to the course and why I want to study the course. The admission criteria for the course is having a BSc in the science discipline, with no age limit.

I chose the course because it covers all aspects/departments of the medical laboratory. there are more than enough faculties in the department when compared to students number. Most of the faculties are professors, some are associate professors, others are PHD's. All the faculties follow the university's syllabus in both theory and practical classes and also follow the reference books suggested by the university. The college conducts three internal assessment exams and one model exam to prepare students for the university's exam which comes in October.

NABL accredited laboratories like Apollo Hospitals laboratory are used for student's internships. Students undergo series of roles including sample collection and analysis, the internship is without any stipend but help students to be conversant with the job.

Students become eligible for placement only after course completion. Almost all (90 to 95)% of the student can get placement in the institution. My plan after this degree is to apply my knowledge in an accredited medical laboratory and contribute to the health sector in my country.

The fees are not that costly, the first year's fees as of 2018 are around 85000 rupee and the second year's fees is around 98000 rupee. the fees cover Record books, laboratory coats, Tuition fees, University exam fees among others. In my case being a foreigner, there was no financial assistance.

The college is one of the best colleges for conducive learning. There are enough books for study both in the Department and hospital library. The classrooms are well equipped with a computer and projector, the laboratories are also well equipped and NABL accredited. Students celebrate festivals like Pongal in January every year. Other activities include attending workshops, visitation to institutions relevant to the course and outside laboratory postings to NABL accredited laboratories of multispecialty Hospitals.
