Remarks
JD Institute of Fashion Technology is a great college to study in. The admission process is seamless and is done without a hassle. It's a walk-in admission, which starts in March and closes in June. The course I had opted for was an advanced diploma in fashion designing (3 years ). The infrastructure of the college and the resources offered are adequate compared to some of the other private institutes. The only issue I faced was the lack of storage for student supplies. JD also offers a lot of exposure, giving us opportunity to volunteer for fashion shows, write blogs, and multiple workshops and seminars are conducted all over the year for us to gain a better knowledge on the fashion industry and its current affairs. Overall a good college provided you choose the right course.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose the Advanced Diploma course after my 10th grade because this course is more design-oriented. It's a course offered by the college and it covers all aspects of design and fashion apart from technical and theoretical knowledge. The course is completely creative and skill-based. JD has a great team of faculties who are all mostly NIFT graduates and PhD holders. They are available at any times and are always willing to help with any of the issues we're facing. A lot of self-studying and exploring is involved. The term exams, or rather, "jury" is flexible in terms of being timely. since the course is not affiliated with any board and it's completely under the control of the college.
Internships Opportunities
We received a lot of paid and unpaid internship opportunity from JD. Start-up brands and established brands included. The stipends range from 5k- 15k. The internship roles covered all possible job opportunities in the design field, like fashion consultant, design assistant, illustrator, graphic designer, fashion research role, fine arts intern and needlework intern, blogger, social media marketing intern and much more.
Placement Experience
JD has an online portal where recruiters post a job advertisement. The same is shared with the students through posters of it on bulletin boards on the campus as well as a detailed message on WhatsApp class groups. Campus interview is conducted by some well-known brands and garment companies annually. Calvin Klein, H&M Arvind fashion and a few other well-knowns brands. I joined the advanced diploma course as a means for me to start my own small business or a boutique, but after studying for 3 years, I came to realise my opportunities are abundant and I could work in the industry instead. Which is what I have in mind now.
Fees and Financial Aid
I'm not aware of the fee hike policy, but the art and material supply that we have to buy all throughout the year is a lot so excess funds for the same is needed. No scholarship or financial aid is provided for this course.
Campus Life
Classes are equipped with a TV, whiteboard, chairs which I personally had problems with. There is no annual fest conducted In the college. But there are other activities, as ethnic day, language day, and other holidays like independence day are celebrated on the campus with students and teachers showcasing their talents. We have other fashion-related activities happening all throughout the year. There are committees like the cultural, sports and a few others. Sports day is celebrated annually. Our two major events every year is our JD design awards in the month of June or July. And JD got talent in December. This is an event where all JD students and faculties get to showcase their talents and win awards for it. JD is affiliated with a lifestyle website called style. World and students are encouraged to write lifestyle and design-related blogs for the website.
