Remarks
Vijaya College, Jayanagar can be considered as one of the best colleges for middle-class families in Bengaluru. It has many goods aspects like good teaching, well-behaved students, a good environment for students to improve themselves both physically and mentally in all aspects. Some of the bad aspects can be that when one might read that the teaching is in fact good, the faculty are sometimes not that support to students. They fulfil their basic condition of teaching the students in a classroom situation and nothing more than that and some other bad aspects can be that there are not many extra or co-curricular activities, it is only conducted once a year. They are too focussed on studies and exams which might induce too much stress on students. The college accepts students on a first come first serve basis. The applicant is provided with a form which he/she has to fill and submit it and the admin asks the applicant to appear on a different date to pay the fees.
Course Curriculum Overview
I chose B.Com because I had a plan on doing CMA after B.com and I was really interested in accounting and taxation. The faculty are well numbered in all departments of the college except for the language department where only 1 or 2 teachers are assigned for each language which might cause problems in the schedule. The faculty members are well learnt in their respective fields and the teaching method Is somewhat similar to a schooling system where the teacher revises himself/herself with the topic for the day and explains it by giving examples and providing notes for the same beforehand which makes it easier for students to get the topic on hand. Exams and tests are conducted on a regular basis so that the students can be well versed in all the aspects being taught and it is easier for them to prepare for their final examinations. There are assignments and other projects for internal assessment marks.
Placement Experience
There is a campus placement office where the students can get registered as soon as they enter the 5th semester of their course. They have to provide personal details and their marks. Various organisations like Otis, HDFC bank, Insurance companies, Infosys, Wipro and others conduct campus recruitment along with other smaller organizations which change every year. I did not register for campus placement as I had no intention of working after doing my degree. I wanted to pursue CMA hence do not know about the packages but from what I've heard they are good packages. A very small percentage of students get selected from such companies. As I've mentioned before I plan to pursue CMA (COST AND MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANCY) after my degree and this college has really helped me set up a good foundation for the same.
Fees and Financial Aid
I joined the college in 2017, and the fees I paid was 45000/- for one year and 42000/- for the second year and 45000/- for the third year, but now it has been revised and is revised accordingly every year. The college is comparatively affordable to other colleges in Bengaluru. For some students who are in specific difficult conditions, they can request concessions or instalment by meeting the principal. The college itself provides no scholarships, but they do provide information about other scholarships which are organised by the government or other private institutions and will also help the students with the requirements for the same like providing study certificate etc. I did not apply for campus placement and hence do not know about the same.
Campus Life
The life of a student at Vijaya college is good and well mannered. The college is large in size but there are no sports facilities within the college itself but the college organises a sports day where the students are taken to a different ground to participate in various sports including both indoor and outdoor sports. There are commerce fests and annual fests organised by the college and are conducted at the auditorium which is huge and has many programmes where all the students have a chance to participate. There is a library on the third floor which is really well organised and clean and has a lot of really useful books for the students to refer to and study along with newspapers and magazines to keep them up to date on current affairs. There are various clubs within the college too like the environmental club, news club etc and they conduct activities from time to time. The classrooms usually have around 90-100 students and are big enough to accommodate the same.
