My college life

College doesn't builds knowledge or professionalism in the students. The campus life is also worse. There won't be any memories nor exposure from the college.

The college is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. So the course and curriculum followed is as per Anna University. The examinations are conducted and evaluated by Anna University. The syllabus is good as Anna University is a State University. But my college lacked in researches. We never used to have technical fair or symposiums for talent exposure. Only theoretical knowledge as per the Anna University is imparted here and there is no possible opportunity to have a expertise knowledge. That has reflected in the competence that we have with respect to other college students who had good exposure in their colleges.

No internships at all in the college. They holds placement drives for the final years. But all the companies visiting are BPO companies. They conducts recruitment procedures and selects engineering graduates irrespective of branch as Voice process or non voice process associates. No core companies visits the college. After the placement, they erect a large advertisement board with all placed students. But if checked closely, you'll see that all were selected in BPOs and no core companies.

No technical or cultural festivals were conducted in the college. We've never heard about Sports day or Arts day. Only once in the 4 years the Annual day was conducted and it ceased to exist from the next year. The students conduct festival celebrations during Pongal, Diwali & Onam celebrations. There isn't much participation from the management for conducting these celebrations.

The fee structure was feasible. It was 70000 per year as Tuition Fees. In the following years the fees was reduced later. Fees can be paid at the college office as cash or card. There is no additional charges. The hostel fees is Rs 40000 per year including food and lodging.

No scholarship was provided by the college. There was scholarship from the state government for the students joined by the entrance exam on the merit seats.

Campus life is barren without any fests or functions. There isn't any joyful campus life. All the celebrations are done outside the campus. Gender ratio depends on the branches. For Mechanical Engineering department there weren't any girls. As of diversity there are few students from Kerala. The majority of students are Tamils.

There is seperate hostel facility for boys and girls. The hostel is on a room sharing basis for 4 students per room. The rooms are good and there is locker facility for 4 students in each room. There is also a dormitory for accommodating more students. There are 2 hostels for boys. The PG facility is available just walkable distance. Rooms can be rented nearby and there are hotels too. Most of the students opt to stay in rented rooms after the first year.

The seniors are helpful. The alumni network is a joke. Seniors gives good information and guidance on both academic and curricular activities. Everyone celebrates together and there's good friendship between seniors and juniors.

There is merit seat and management seat. Merit seat is filled by Tamil Nadu Engineering Entrance Exams (TANCET) and management seats are filled here on first come first served basis. I joined by management seat. Chose the department and checked for vacant seats. The seats were vacant. So certificate verification was done and an advance payment of Rs 10000 was done after completing the admission paperworks. The admission procedure started in May/June and the classes started in July.

Usually the engineering colleges have professors holding a MTech degree & the Head of departments will be PhD holders. But in the college, the professors were only BTech graduates and our HOD was a MTech holder. The professors weren't experienced too. Most of them joined the college as BTech freshers.
