Remarks
I believe that the institution is very open minded and do not limit students and give us an ample amount of freedom.
Course Curriculum Overview
I have learnt a lot of skills which I believe are necessary for computer science graduates and will be important to both get a job and work in the industry, such as via learning different programming languages. Various professors did expand on the industry application of the subject. As far placements are concerned our data structures and algorithms course will be very helpful for that. So far we haven’t had any industrial visits but I have interacted with both alumni and other people working at various organizations via events conducted by our college.
Placement Experience
We have many companies that come for recruitments including some of the top tech companies in the world like google, Microsoft, Apple etc. 100% of the students of each batch do get places. I have not been involved with the recruitment procedure hence I am not aware in regards to institute procedures.
College Events
We have one large annual techno cultural fest known as Felicity. It is 3 days long and a few thousand people attend, especially for the last day of the fest where generally a well known band comes and performs. There are various events that are held throughout the fest such as debates sports competitions quizzes and performances. Student participation is very high.
Fee Structure And Facilities
There are different fees for different modes of admission. My fees are comparatively higher and tuition fees are 12000 USD for one academic year. There are additional hostel, mess, caution deposit and seat allotment fees that need to be paid as well. The college does provide transparency in the fee breakdown.
Fees and Financial Aid
The college offers scholarship opportunities for people who qualify under the UDAAN program. I personally did not qualify for any scholarship offered by the college.
Campus Life
There are many misconceptions regarding our campus life as we have a reputation of being an academics driven institute. Even though are workload is high the campus life is highly active via various clubs events and sports. The gender ratio is quite low, around 1:9 for our batch. Many students do participate in national level debates and other competitions such as robotics.
Hostel Facilities
Yes I have opted for the hostel facility. I share a room with one roommate and the hostel is compulsory and are available for all students. The room itself is a decent space and has never felt too small for me personally. We have washing machines (not enough), common washrooms, sinks and drying areas.
Alumni/Alumna
Senior students are extremely helpful and guide us as they have been through the same experience as us. The alumni were very helpful as well and the college regularly conducts events for us to meet and interact with them.
Admission
I came in through the DASA mode of admission. I wrote the subject SAT in Math level 2, Physics and Chemistry. I also had to write the SAT-1 and get a minimum qualifying grade in my 12th boards. I chose this institute due to its location and good reputation for excelling in academics especially in the field of computer science. For admission I had to send my SAT scores to the institute and apply through the portal. There were multiple rounds in case someone opted out of admission at IIIT for another college.
Faculty
Most of the faculty are heavily involved with research aspects of their field of study. Hence they do have a good expertise of their fields. For our course we have had around 6 professors for each semester. Their average age I would say is around 45-50. They are all extremely qualified with many of them holding a doctorate or post doctorate at globally renowned institutes. Most professors are helpful and do provide good clarity for doubts but some are a bit headstrong and get annoyed by ‘silly doubts’. Many of the lecturers have a good amount of industry experience and do tell us about their experience and how certain things that we have been taught are useful and applied in the real world.
