Remarks

The college is located outside the Jalandhar city on a highway which makes the reach a bit difficult. Amritsar is a great place at one hour's drive to visit. Golden Temple is the prime attraction. The weather in Jalandhar is extreme in both summer as well as winter.

Course Curriculum Overview

3.5

Mechanical Engineering is quite good in NIT Jalandhar. The subjects taught are core but the laboratories are not very well equipped. The exams are conducted 3 times in a semester. 2 Minors (of 20 marks each) and 1 Major (of 50 marks) are conducted whereas 10 marks are for internal assessment and assignments.

Placement Experience

3.5

The placements of Mechanical Engineering branch are decent this year due to the slowdown in the automobile sector. However, some big names like Honda R&D, Hero Motocorp, Maruti Suzuki, JCB and more have visited the college this year for placements. For Internships, SKF, Saint Gobain, Godrej Agrovet are some of the companies that have visited the campus.

College Events

5

Two major festivals are celebrated in the institute. The technical fest called "Techniti" is the biggest technical fest in the whole of North India. It is celebrated around November. Another cultural festival named "Utkansh" is celebrated around March and a lot of cultural events take place in this fest.

Fee Structure And Facilities

The fees is quite expensive. The tuition fees is around 75000 and the mess fees around 25000 for one semester. The tuition fees depends on your family annual income and is almost 10000 for students who's family income is less than 1 lakh rupees.

Loan/ Scholarship Provisions

Loans are available from the banks in the campus. Two banks- Canara Bank and SBI Bank are there in the campus. Scholarships are provided on tuition fees on the basis of your family's annual income. The banks have tie up with the institute.

Campus Life

4

There are a lot of societies in the institute. Though I would suggest the students from Mechanical branch to join the technical societies. There are three technical societies in the institute. I myself was a part of Team Daksh which designs and manufactures Self driving solar powered electric vehicle and it was a wonderful experience.

Hostel Facilities

2.5

The hostels are well equipped with facilities like WiFi, Geysers, TV room, Table Tennis Room, Badminton Court and open lawns. The hostel rooms depends on the hostel. There are around 14 hostels including the boys and girls hostels. You have to share your room for the first two years and get a single room for the third and final year.

Alumni/Alumna

The seniors help their juniors during the exams as well as during the placement season. There is an alumni meet every year around April. An alumnus network also exists for the NIT Jalandhar alumni. The seniors from societies guide their juniors with their academics too.

Admission

I chose the B. Tech Mechanical Engineering branch because of my interest in the automobile field. The process for admission starts with JEE Mains. You need to score a decent amount of score in the JEE Mains (above 160) as well as score 75+ percentage in the Board Exams. A merit list is prepared in which the ranks are displayed and the allotment of colleges is done on the basis of ranks.

Faculty

3.5

The faculty from Mechanical Engineering Department is very knowledgeable and very helpful. Some teachers really put an effort to help students understand the concepts in deep. The faculty from other branches varies with the branch.

Remarks:

The college is way too far from the main city that acts as a disadvantage for students who want to attend other classes for preparation of CAT or GATE considering the commute time. Also there are few outlets near the campus. It is still under construction.

There are some factors in which college is not good. They are like fines, study plans, not providing good facilities, not providing funds for organizing an event but some faculties are so good that they support you each time.

Remarks:

The college was good on the basis of education and faculty. Management which is involved in the finance department bit slow on their work as they will keep on prolonging the process for a month. And every time you go for semester fees paying they will always tell to bring all the previous documents. That is the only thing. otherwise, the college on the education front is good.
