To prepare for GATE, you need to be self-motivated. GATE is generally tougher than SSC CGL. Recently, many students have been reconsidering their GATE preparation due to the limited vacancies in PSUs for CSE graduates.

If you're confident in your ability to navigate the selection process, GATE is definitely a better option than SSC CGL.

Just remember this:

  • GATE does not guarantee a city posting, while some SSC CGL positions are based in Delhi or other metro areas.
  • The perks and benefits offered by PSUs are substantial. SSC CGL simply cannot compete.

Good luck! Choose wisely!

For me, pursuing a B.Tech at Delhi Technological University is definitely a better option than aiming for a SSC level government job. I’ve learned so much in my Chemical Engineering course, and the faculty here is top-notch, with many professors being IITians or PhD holders. The placement opportunities are incredible; I heard the highest package was 1.8 Cr in 2022! Plus, there’s a great campus culture with a central library and sports complex. While a government job might be secure, the experience and networking at DTU are invaluable for my career.

Honestly, I would choose a B.Tech at DTU over a SSC level government job any day. I’m currently in Chemical Engineering, and the opportunities here are just amazing. The average package is over 16 lakhs, which is way better than what you’d earn in a government job. Plus, the internships are a huge bonus! Companies like Microsoft and Google come for placements, and they offer stipends of 60-70k during internships. The campus life is vibrant too, with tons of clubs and societies. A government job might offer stability, but the growth potential in tech is just way more exciting for me.

GATE.

  • Competition is less in GATE.
  • M. Tech from IITs is a solid backup (aspirants often take GATE even after getting into IITs and have successfully cracked GATE, PSU examinations, and UPSC ESE). In contrast, SSC CGL has SSC-CHSL as a backup, which is NOT a good option for B. Tech holders.
  • GATE is a one-day examination (unlike SSC CGL, which has tier-2, tier-3, etc.). There is GD/PI in PSU recruitment, but GATE score carries the majority weightage.
  • Most posts in SSC CGL are Auditor-type roles, which are not appealing. Only a few positions in SSC CGL are worthwhile. GATE leads to Executive posts in PSUs.
  • Salaries in PSUs are significantly higher than those in SSC CGL posts.
  • Promotions in SSC CGL posts are slow.

I believe that going for a B.Tech at DTU is a much better career choice than a SSC level government job. I’m in Chemical Engineering, and honestly, the curriculum is manageable, which gives me time to explore tech skills like programming. The internships available here are fantastic, with companies like Uber and Texas Instruments offering great stipends. Also, the campus is lively, and there’s a lot to engage in outside of academics. Sure, a government job has its perks, but the potential for growth and the vibrant environment at DTU make it a no-brainer for me!
