What is it like studying under JNTU Hyderabad?

I’m currently pursuing my Bachelor of Technology in Cyber Security at JNTU Hyderabad, and I find the curriculum to be quite relevant to current industry needs. The exams are structured well, with two midterms and a semester exam, allowing us enough time to prepare. The faculty is friendly and mostly helpful, although the teaching methods could improve to be more interactive.

For placements, students become eligible from the 6th semester, and the highest package has been 52 lakhs, so there are good opportunities if you work hard. The campus life is vibrant, with various clubs and activities, which makes studying here enjoyable.

The exams are conducted every six months, and while the midterms are relatively easier, the semester exams can get pretty tough. The placement opportunities are decent, with companies like TCS and Wipro visiting, and the average package is around 4 lakhs. However, competition is stiff, and it’s advisable to keep your grades up to secure a good position.

Studying at JNTU Hyderabad isn't the best experience for everyone. Many students there are either really focused on memorizing stuff or didn't get into IITs or NITs. This creates a big issue, as a lot of them struggle with social skills and speaking English fluently. Even though English isn't our first language, you'd expect students from such a reputed institute to communicate better in it. Compared to other colleges, JNTUH students seem to lead a different kind of life. There are no cultural events, and the yearly technical fest isn't very impressive. Student clubs are almost non-existent, and the job placements are not as good as those at private colleges like CBIT. If you're from the city, you might find it tough dealing with some of the less mature and dull folks here.

On the brighter side, being in the city means there are lots of places to hang out. If you meet people with similar interests, life can be quite fun. The facilities are also pretty good. However, overall, you might find yourself surrounded by less enthusiastic, overly dependent students who are like those from "Sri Chaitanya" or "Narayana" schools.

I'm interpreting the question as what it's like to study at JNTUH. I'd say it's a pretty good experience overall. You have plenty of free time, which you can use productively. Let me highlight some key points.

Don't expect to gain deep technical knowledge directly from the college or faculty, as you might feel a bit let down there. However, you'll have ample resources and time (trust me on this) to teach yourself the subjects.

You'll meet some great classmates and seniors, especially if you live in the college hostel. The college has a nice cricket ground, and a few tournaments take place each year.

Now, about placements, you'll mostly find opportunities for software jobs, while core job options are limited. I personally attended over 30 company interviews right at the college, most being software or IT-related. Nearly all students secure placements.

For those interested in core fields, many students diligently prepare for the GATE exam, creating a competitive atmosphere. Each year, students achieve decent All India Ranks.

From my experience and perspective, CSE is the best department to join here. For other departments, you'll need to put in extra effort if you're aiming for higher studies.
