PGIMER (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) Chandigarh junior resident stipend:

PGIMER is a central government medical institute. junior residents receive a competitive stipend:

  • Junior Resident stipend at PGIMER: approximately Rs.95,000-1,00,000 per month (as per central government 7th Pay Commission norms for medical residents)
  • this includes basic pay + NPA (Non-Practising Allowance) + HRA
  • in-house accommodation is also provided for residents at PGIMER at subsidized rates

stipend amounts have increased significantly with 7th Pay Commission revisions. PGIMER is considered one of the better-paying central medical institutions for residents. check the official PGIMER website (pgimer.edu.in) ? careers/residency section for the current year's exact stipend figures as these are updated with government revisions. the actual take-home varies slightly with deductions and the specific residency level (PGY1/2/3).

Breakdown (approximate):

  • Basic pay component: ~?67,000/month (Level 10, pay matrix, 7th CPC for JR).
  • NPA (Non-Practicing Allowance): ~?10,000/month.
  • HRA and other allowances: ~?18,000-20,000/month.

Additional benefits at PGIMER:

  • Free accommodation (JR hostel — subsidized).
  • Free hospital canteen meals (heavily subsidized).
  • CGHS (Central Government Health Scheme) benefits.
