What are the best student organizations or clubs to join at CUSAT? Why should students join them?

SS
Sakshi Sharma Posted On : February 12th, 2021
Former Student at Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2016-2020)

If you are one of those lucky ones who have gotten their admission in it and are excitedly looking forward to being a part of the campus and everything that it has to offer, you’ve come to the right place. There are a number of student clubs or associations that you might want to be a part of once you are onboard.

Here’s a quick look at all the interesting and must attend clubs while you are at CUSAT:

ACES:

  • The most happening club out there is this one. ACES is run totally by students of the CS department and they have successfully ensured that the club is kept active and running at all times.
  • They are also known to have several technical sessions regularly and all the IT or technical geeks here at the campus are delightfully keeping the club dynamically functional.

ECSA:

  • Short for, Electronics & Communication Students Association, this club primarily focuses on the EC department and is also run by EC students.
  • Quite a popular association and also a favorite of many. It’s recommended to be an active member of this club if the branch EC interests you.

MERAKI 7:

  • This is another tech stuff where lots of stirring and nerd activities and events take place.
  • A motivational and stirring place to be on campus for all tech-lovers!

Apart from the clubs mentioned above, there’s InnovaDen that has everybody’s hearts. It is basically a co-working space for like-minded students who are interested in technical studies and might wish to pursue them further.

There are other IT associations that have been recently started at the campus. You can look forward to joining them as well.

How many marks are required to get into CUSAT in any stream?

AP
Avneet Paul Posted On : July 19th, 2021
Computer Science Engg from Cochin University Of Science and Technology

CUSAT has two campuses. There is a difference in infrastructure and facilities in the two campuses, thus having separate demands among candidates. So, the cut-off ranks of similar departments in the two campuses of CUSAT are different.

  • For getting a seat in any department of the first campus, you will require a rank within 1000, or maybe within 1200-1300 at maximum.
  • For getting a seat in any department at the second campus, the difference from the ranks of the first campus is huge. Also, it varies a lot from year to year. Sometimes, the required cut-off is within 2500-3000, whereas there are sessions with cut-offs of about 5000-6000 too.
  • Even after these ranks, there are chances of students getting a seat in CUSAT at the spot counseling rounds.

Hope this gives you some idea about the cut-offs of both the campuses of CUSAT.

Which is better at CUSAT, IT or EC?

SR
Sikha Rajput Posted On : July 20th, 2021
Studied Bachelor of Technology in Electronics and Communications Engineering at Cochin University Of Science

Both the options are good. There is no such difference in the quality of education, either in these two branches, or any other branch in CUSAT.

They make you work hard, focus on every detail, and stress a lot on the practical classes and labs.

As for the faculty, 85% are permanent. As for the quality of faculty, everyone will have a different view. According to my friends at CUSAT, the only difference you will find between the branches is that the EC people toil 3 times harder than the other branches.

According to the overall placement statistics the average and highest CTC offered to the students is 4 LPA and 15 LPA.

You should choose the branch that is better for you. Think about the branch where your interest lies, will you be able to manage the workload efficiently, does the subject interest you, or which branch has the better placements matter. However, I would like to advise you not to be bothered by placements any more.

Will I be eligible for CSE in CUSAT with 258 marks? What approximately would be my CUSAT rank?

MS
Mukesh Singh Posted On : April 6th, 2023
B.Tech Computer Science, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020)

The eligibility for admission in CSE at CUSAT depends on various factors, such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level of the paper, and the cutoff trends from previous years. However, based on previous year trends, with 258 marks in CUSAT CAT, you have a good chance of being eligible for CSE at CUSAT.

As for the approximate rank, it is difficult to determine the exact rank as the rank is influenced by various factors, such as the difficulty level of the exam, the number of students appearing for the exam, and the previous year's cutoff. However, based on previous year trends, your estimated rank could be in the range of 1000 to 2000.

Admission to CUSAT is not solely based on the CUSAT CAT score or rank. There are other factors, such as reservation policy, which may affect your admission chances. Therefore, it is recommended to check the official website of CUSAT for the latest updates and information regarding the admission process.

How is the IT branch in CUSAT and CUCEK?

ST
Sunil Trivedi Posted On : July 5th, 2021
Bachelor of Technology Engineering, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2020

In Cochin University of Science and Technology (CUSAT) engineering is offered by SOE (Kochi) whereas in CUCEK engineering is offered by (Alappuzha). Having friends studying in both the colleges, I can say that they are equally good.

  • When it comes to the IT sector CUSAT introduced IT in India and is considered a pioneer for the IT sector.
  • The IT branch is well facilitated in both CUCEK and SOE and is considered a good course to opt for here.
  • Both the institutes are well established and have created a name for them.
  • Faculties in both are well trained with a lot of experience.
  • Both of them have world-class labs with the latest equipment and technologies to equip students with the latest inventions.
  • Placements are also good for IT. Mostly they get placed in the southern region of the country like in Bangalore, Hyderabad and etc with good packages.

Categories

How is the food at CUSAT?

AS
Arnab Singh Posted On : February 12th, 2021
MCA Computer Science & Mathematics, Cochin University Of Science and Technology (2018)

Food will not be an issue at CUSAT. The food you will get at the mess of CUSAT is similar to that of any other engineering colleges in India.

The food provided at the campus is great. But it is Kerala food. If you are from North India and habituated to the type of Noth-Indian food, you may have difficulty in adjusting. Since the food at the mess is prepared in coconut oil. If you are opting for a hostel you have to choose the mess facilities too. But it is not as bad as it sounds, and you can survive and adjust with time.

You can get Noth-Indian Food by tiffin service too. You can also find many Bihari and Bengali cooks in the vicinity of the campus. There are also a few North-Indian messes near the college. In case you are staying in a rented flat or room, it would be better to hire a cook.

It may take some time to adjust but you can definitely survive on the food available at CUSA. So, do not treat food as a deciding parameter for not choosing CUSAT.

Which is better- SMVDU or CUSAT??

DJ
Deepika Jain Posted On : May 7th, 2021
Studied at School of Engineering, Cochin University of Science and Technology

I had a friend who was a student of CUSAT. He scored 181 marks in JEE Main and was allotted north-east NITs and SMVDU. Power Engineering at Jadavpur was also offered to him with his WB JEE Exam. But he wanted to get into CUSAT in Safety & Fire Engineering at SOE.

  • Reason for selection: If I talk about SMVDU, you would end up competing with students from various reputed colleges. The syllabus of CUSAT is much better in terms of completion.
  • Location factor: Since the location of CUSAT is in Kerala, you would be surrounded amidst the peace and you would have so much to explore as well!
  • Campus placement: If you end up doing your B.Tech from the first campus (SOE) leaving behind the Civil Department- it is safe to say that you would get placed. If you manage to get to the Safety & Fire Engineering (IT/CSE), you would earn a good package too.

Back when my friend had passed out in 2018, students from Safety & Fire Engineering were placed in some great companies like- Maruti, ONGC, GAIL, Reliance, Maharatna, etc. For campus placements, you'd witness reputed companies around you. Plus, any placement offered by CSE, ECE, IT, or Mechanical departments is much better than SMVDU's.

Read the following points before taking any decision -

  1. CUSAT is in Kerala and you would witness a sort of South-Indian union among the Kerala masses along with special reservations for Keralites almost everywhere.
  2. Do not let the language barrier get to you and instead of feeling low, learn it and work on your communication skills.
  3. College strikes would happen often because of SFI and other parties.
  4. Your interaction would be confided to Keralites, U.P, or Bihar students.
  5. The culture and traditions that are followed in Kerala are entirely different from the North.

If you are getting SOE, then prefer it over SMVDU. Apart from that, Kerala is a very beautiful place that you should enjoy thoroughly.

Which would be comparatively better for an M. Tech: CUSAT, Cochin or Amrita University, Coimbatore?

MK
Mihika Kapoor Posted On : September 29th, 2020
Studied Computer Security at Amrita University (2021)

Amrita University has ranked 4th among the top engineering colleges by NIRF in 2020. Cochin University of Science and Technology has ranked 89th among the top engineering colleges by NIRF in 2020 and has been marked as an ‘A’ graded institution by NAAC.

Both these universities have several advantages and each one of them has evolved in their own ways over the years. Both of them offer good facilities to their students, which is why it can get difficult to choose either one of them. However, in order to get over the dilemma about which one would be perfect for you, go through these points which will eventually help you make the final call.

Admission:

Amrita university- It offers MTech courses in various specializations, such as Cyber Security, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Material Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, etc.

  • Admission to the MTech program is through GATE. For non-GATE qualified candidates, the selection is based on past academic records and personal interviews conducted by the University.

  • Students applying for admission to MTech programs should have passed with a minimum of 60% aggregate in BE/BTech/MSc in relevant engineering disciplines.

The course fee for MTech at Amrita University is 3.57 lakhs.

Cochin University of Science and Technology- It offers full-time and per-time MTech courses in various specializations.

  • The selection of the programs is through GATE/DAT/JNU Entrance Test.

The total course fee for CUSAT is INR 34,675.

Placement:

Amrita University-

  • Some of the top recruiters of the Amrita University students are Amazon, Google, TCS, CTS, Microsoft, and more.

  • The highest salary package remains around 30 LPA and the lowest one is 3 LPA-5 LPA.

CUSAT-

  • The top recruiters who offer placements to the CUSAT students are HCL, IBM, IBS, ORACLE, MAHINDRA, INFOSYS, and more.

  • The highest package is 18 LPA and the average salary package remains around 5 LPA.

Infrastructure:

  • Amrita University offers good facilities to the students which include a well-designed library, sports fields along with hostel facilities for both boys and girls.

  • CUSAT, similarly provides modern classrooms with all the necessary equipment, alongside a library, sports facilities, and more. Each department is provided with its individual laboratories.

These are some of the major factors that you should be taking into consideration before making a decision about which one you would choose as your future institution.

CUSAT, or the Cochin University of Science and Technology, has a good track record when it comes to placements. Here are some key points to consider:

  • CUSAT has a dedicated placement cell that works to connect students with potential employers and facilitate job interviews and hiring processes.
  • The placement cell has partnerships with a wide range of companies across various industries, including IT, manufacturing, consulting, finance, and more.
  • Some of the top companies that have hired CUSAT graduates in the past include IBM, Infosys, Wipro, TCS, Microsoft, Dell, HP, L&T, and more.
  • The placement cell also organizes job fairs, workshops, and training programs to help students develop their skills and prepare for the job market.
  • The university has a strong alumni network, and many graduates have gone on to successful careers in their chosen fields.

Overall, while the quality of placements can vary depending on the specific program and individual student, CUSAT has a good reputation for connecting students with top employers and providing them with the skills and resources needed to succeed in their careers.

Which branch would I get in CUSAT with 4413 rank?

SB
Shivam Bansal Posted On : July 30th, 2021

You can perhaps try out all the branches as well as the counseling rounds. In case your bad luck does not allow you to secure any other option anywhere else, try and give the spot rounds a shot. Do not underestimate them.

Apart from that, try to go for the NRI quota and then grab your admission seat. But the NRI seat comes with a very heavy price to pay. It is very expensive. I believe you may get a seat in EC but predicting a branch, in particular, would be a little too much as each year, the rush with almost every branch is pretty intense.
