Which is currently the best medical college after AIIMS Delhi and CMC Vellore?

SK

The criteria for the best college may vary from person to person depending on your hometown, your goals, and your interests. Rankings alone cannot define a college as best or worst. Rankings-wise, AIIMS Delhi is considered to be the best medical college in India. But logically speaking it isn’t a very good choice for a South Indian who would have to travel away from their homeland and work again as hard to secure a PG seat. For them, JIPMER is a much better choice with an internal PG quota advantage and proximity to home.

Moreover, if you are a North Indian, CMC Vellore isn’t a very good choice either as you will have to travel away from home, learn a new language, and establish bonds. So for them, MAMC or VMMC is a better option. So the best college actually depends on what you want to do after college. For instance, AIIMS Delhi is a great choice if you want to pursue the USMLE route. It will provide excellent exposure and opportunities to its students.

In my opinion, the best options after AIIMS and CMC Vellore are JIPMER>MAMC>Seth GS, Mumbai>AFMC. These colleges are considered among the top 5 in the country after AIIMS and CMC Vellore.

Do people in AIIMS-D, JIPMER, AFMC, MAMC, VMMC, LHMC, and UCMS become egoistic?

SK

Medical students from all these colleges are quite decent. They are normal people studying at reputed institutions. I have good friends in MAMC and LHMC.

It is in fact society that puts an extra burden on these people. They are expected to be social all the time. But this expectation is very unrealistic.

It is not right to put labels on these individuals. Their busy schedule should not be confused with egoistic behavior.

How do I manage my boards and AIIMS? How can a mediocre student also get admission in AIIMS Delhi? Do we have to be super intelligent?

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : June 1st, 2023

Yes, you have to be super intelligent to crack AIIMS Delhi. But I am not referring to your IQ level here. My super intelligence I mean, is your ability to be consistent and dedicated with your final goal in mind. Focus on the 3 Ds; diligence, determination, and dedication. Here are a few tips to manage boards and AIIMS together and pave way for your admission to the same

  • Don’t waste your time on useless activities for realizing the value of time is the primary thing. Prioritize your activities and focus a lot on your 11th and 12th studies as these may be the foundation of your future endeavors.
  • Be determined to prove your worth and pay your parents back with good results.
  • Neither underestimate nor overestimate yourself. A moderate level is the best
  • Be ready to accept small facilities like deterioration of marks and rank fluctuations. It’s your desire to stand up after falling that matters.
  • Don’t use excuses rather prove yourself through achievements.

An average person with these qualities has a higher chance of cracking AIIMS Delhi than a person with a high IQ but a very low dedication level.

How can an AIIMS Delhi student go to John Hopkins after an MBBS? Can you explain the whole procedure?

OR
Ojas Reddy Posted On : June 3rd, 2023
Studies at All India Institute of Medical Sciences (2024)

Pursuing MD/MS in India after completing your MBBS is called Residency and for the exact same thing, the exam in the US is USMLE. In order to get into John Hopkins after an MBBS,

  • Excellent scores in MLE,
  • An impressive CV
  • Valid recommendations.

On average, JHU takes 1-2 international students every session for Residency from all over the globe. There is no fixed procedure for exceptional cases. Most AIIMS students working in JHU complete their residency in the US and worked extraordinarily hard to join elite institutes like JHU as doctors.

Which one is better for doing PG in neurology; NIMHANS or AIIMS?

AB
Aditi Banerjee Posted On : September 30th, 2023
Lives in Bangalore

Both AIIMS and NIMHANS are excellent options for pursuing a PG in neurology. While choosing one between the two, you might want to consider the following simple differences

  • Courses: DM Neurology is offered at both AIIMS and NIMHANS. Both the colleges offer this course after PG in General Medicine for which you will have to pass the exams conducted by respective institutes.
  • Courses after MBBS : NIMHANS offers a direct 5 years of DM neurology course after MBBS while AIIMS does not offer any direct DM neurology course after MBBS. So If you choose NIMHANS, you will not have to take an entrance exam for admission to DM after PG in general medicine. NIMHANS certainly gives a huge edge in this aspect.
  • Practice: AIIMS has a huge patient load most of which is dealt with by senior citizens. So, you will not get much clinical exposure and will be entrusted with trivial tasks only. NIMHANS on the other hand is a national-level neuro institute where you will get to deal with all types of patients right from the first year.
  • Location: AIIMS Delhi has a clear advantage over NIKHANS in terms of location.

So choose wisely!

Can I get in AIIMS Delhi if I have wasted 7 months of class 11?

DV
Deepika Verma Posted On : June 10th, 2023
Student at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi (2017-present)

Yes, you can get into AIIMS even if you wasted a few months of your class 11. My brother wasted his entire year and was in an even worse situation. You need to realize that even if you wasted 7 months you still have an entire year to prepare.

Some may not agree but I believe one year is enough to prepare for M.B.B.S. in your dream college. All you need to do is become very serious about your goal and remove all distractions from your life. The harder you work the more chances of clearing NEET. It’s better to start preparing now than wasting time on asking such questions. Every minute counts. Since your dream college is AIIMS Delhi, the journey is going to be all the more tough. You’ll have to sacrifice a lot on the way. Completely give up on social media, parties, and hangouts. Your sacrifice will be paid one day so just focus on working hard now.

Make a proper timetable and follow it religiously. Make sure you have revised the syllabus at least 4 times before giving the exam. Don’t follow anyone’s schedule as every human being is unique. Lastly, don't waste your time asking people if it’s late or not. Remember, ‘Better late than never‘.
