Currently, IT Lucknow is considered the best college in Dr. A.P.J Abdul Kalam Technical University (AKTU). But it is way backward in terms of infrastructure and placements from its private counterparts. The non-core branches’ average placements hover around INR 4-5 lakhs per annum while that of core branches is virtually non-existent.
The students are good as most of them were serious IITs and NITs aspirants before coming here. The students here can easily prepare for other competitive exams as coaching centers are nearby. Attendance is also fairly lenient and thus you will get ample time for your preparations. However, sometimes the administration may go hard if they feel like it.
With a rank of 1750 in UPSEE, I think you can get electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, electronics and instrumentation engineering, civil engineering, and chemical engineering by 4th round. You may also get information technology and electronics and communications engineering by 5th round.
Here are some of the things for which you can consider joining IET Lucknow –
IET Lucknow is not a bad institute. It is just that it is mostly a good compromise institute rather than an outright first-choice college.
NIT Uttarakhand is the last choice of the majority of students among all other NITs. It has the lowest ranking, poor placement records, and no awards or academic excellence. It is considered a Tier 4 institute.
On the other hand, IET Lucknow is a prestigious institution, especially for engineering students. It is one of the best UPSEE institutes in Lucknow. Moreover, it is considered academically strong and has earned good recognition.
Check the following table for a brief insight on relevant statistics of both institutes:
| Particulars | IET Lucknow | NIT Uttarakhand |
| Total Fees | 3.44 Lakhs | 5.87 Lakhs |
| Highest Package | 36 LPA | 10.5 LPA |
| Average Package | 5 LPA | 6.8 LPA |
| Total Offers | 100+ | 90 |
Generally, ECE is better than ME but it applies to the institutes which are nearly on the same level. In this scenario, pursuing ME from IET Lucknow would be the better option in terms of placements, a recognition that would later help you in finding a job through off-campus placement.
Based on what I heard from my friends at IET Lucknow, there is no official Fresher’s Party. It is not a well-planned official event in the institute. Therefore, the institute does not fund the event. The Fresher’s Party is an unofficial event depending upon the personal choice of the seniors. They contribute funds and arrange the party.
Usually, every branch has its own party. A few departments like CSE, ME, ECE, CE, CHE, and EI, had individual parties in previous years. However, there was no party for the other branches.
So, there is no specific date for the Freshers Party, but they will inform you if it is planned. It is also not compulsory to attend.
CSE is considered a better option than ECE in today’s current scenario and has much better scope and field of work. The scope for CSE broadens with each passing day and with every new invention in the fields of technology and the IT sector. Although ECE is one of the core branches of IET Lucknow still CSE has more demand compared to it.
Following are some drawbacks of the ECE branch at IET Lucknow over CSE:
CSE has a better environment than ECE with no strict attendance regulation. The professors in the CSE department are friendly. The placement of the CSE branch is far better than any other branch in IET Lucknow.
According to my friends studying at IET Lucknow,Electronics & Instrumentation (EI) Engineering is not a core engineering branch at all while Chemical Engineering is close to being called a core engineering branch.
Now coming to the placement scenario –
The placements happen in good numbers only for CSE and IT departments. But the placement packages are still less. So most of the students focus on clearing competitive exams such as GATE, IES, CAT, and others.
The harsh reality of IET Lucknow is that you may not even get a single interview experience if you are from the above-mentioned branches. The college is improving under the leadership of the new director but still, there is a long way to go.
If you talk of GATE performance, then EI and chemical engineering always perform much better than other branches.
The best part about IET Lucknow is the freedom it offers to the students. The college does not intend to restrict students to only academics. There is no pressure for attendance. However, some faculties might give weightage to attendance. So, if you can balance the academics and extracurricular, you can negotiate with them. Never give a chance to your teachers to point down your mistakes.
Consider the below-mentioned points for this.
Overall, the classes are skippable in IET Lucknow if you have a decent image in front of faculties. Currently, compulsory attendance of 60% as per the rules of the new director is required, but 50% attendance will let you sit in exams.
IET is ranked #1 among all the ATKU 600+ engineering colleges, whereasMNNIT Allahabad was ranked #48th by NIRF for B.Tech courses. The placement rate of CSE branch is higher as compared to other subjects in IET. Generally the recruiting companies for CSE and ECE branches are almost similar. The only difference lies in the institution, teaching staff and the candidate’s performance. Both the institutions have qualified faculties. Both of them are approved by AICTE.

Placements
Some of the on-campus facilities of IET Lucknow are library, gym, hostel and bank. Some of the on-campus facilities in MNNIT Allahabad are a stationery shop, generator, student club, hostel (geyser, air cooler, refrigerator, water cooler, washing machine), PCO, 24/7 canteen, etc. Getting into IET Lucknow is difficult, as their cut-offs are really high. But the companies recruiting are not so good. Choosing ECE over CSE will give you the advantage of sitting in placements of both the courses. The rest all lies in the hands of the candidate and their interest. They can compare all the information available and then decide which is better for them.
IET Lucknow has a decent reputation in the industry. Therefore, the aggregate placement of the institute is satisfactory. In general, the campus depends upon the students, teachers, and the college.
The ECE branch has average placement. But if you are expecting jobs in core companies then you will be disappointed. There are very few core job offers in the placement drive. However, you will get good opportunities in CSE or IT core companies. So, it’s better to work on your computer language (c++, Java) skills.
The companies that come for the campus are LT, Aditya Birla Group, NTPC, Power Corporation Limited, BHEL, RDSO, DRDO, DLW, RDSO, BEL, BHEL, BARC, IOCL, BSNL, and more. The median CTC offered in the campus drive is 5 LPA. If you work hard, you’ll successfully get placed.
You have not specified your category, I will try to mention most of them and you can check your eligibility accordingly.
The examination paper has been tougher than the previous years. A 300 in UPTU means a rank ranging from 16001-25000. You can refer to this table and see which one fits your profile.
| B.Tech in Computer Science Engineering | ||
| Category | IET Lucknow Cut Off | KNIT Sultanpur Cut Off |
| General | 193-342 | 865-1079 |
| OBC | 357-495 | 1183-1438 |
| SC | 2749-4252 | 4968-7208 |
| ST | 9914-9914 | - |
There are chances that you might get in if you fit a certain category. Also, your rank might get CS in any other government college except for IET Lucknow but if you are from the SC category, there might be a chance. Getting admission for core subjects might be harder.
As one of my friends was a student at IET Lucknow, from her experience I can for sure tell you that it is really hard for you to get admission in most of the colleges with a gap of three years. In addition to that, to get shortlisted for admission at IET Lucknow, you will have to appear in the UPSEE exam and perform really well in it.
I would recommend you to first learn about the procedure of availing a loan, the interest rates, how much to pay, the time after which you will have to start repaying the loan, etc. Having prior knowledge of all these will be better otherwise you might get fooled.
Additionally, keep a valid income certificate with yourself. You can apply for the scholarships provided by the UP government. Most of the IET Lucknow students avail of the scholarship under the state government.
