Which is better: IMT Nagpur, Hyderabad/ TAPMI / LBSIM?

BJ
Bhawana Jain Posted On : March 2nd, 2023
JP Morgan, DE Shaw & Co, IIM Trichy

IMT Nagpur and IMT Hyderabad are considered good B-Schools, better than TAPMI and LBSIM but IMT Nagpur is more established and has a better reputation, which puts it higher on the list. However, this ranking can vary depending on the factors that are being considered, such as faculty quality, campus infrastructure, industry linkages, and alumni network, among others. Additionally, personal preference and individual career goals should also be taken into consideration while evaluating the B-Schools.

It is always recommended to visit the campus and talk to current students and alumni before making a final decision.

How much a tag of a premier B-school (IIM's) matters than a B-school (TAPMI, KJ, and LIBA) five years down the line?

There are two schools of thought on the same. The proponents would say that it matters a lot since the older your institute gets the more your alumni base spreads across the industry and in today’s corporate world connections are everything. Hiring managers ask for recommendations. Every college has its reputation in the market that has been built over a period of time by its students, faculty, and staff. But we also have people who dont believe in this concept and would like you to believe that only matters to an extent. Well that might be true for some but it takes a lot of effort to not be seen as a part of your institution

What are the odds of converting a TAPMI call for a fresher (BBA) with 88% in CAT, 10th - 78, 12th - 79 and grad 66?

Even though your 10th and 12th-grade graduation rates are low, you have a good chance. I think you will convert it if you do well on the GD/PI. A lot depends on your resume, including your extracurricular activities and other things. As the final selection is based on multiple factors and a person with a good profile has a high chance of getting into TAPMI.

TAPMI uses Profile-based Shortlisting. Shortlisted profiles include:

  • Valid CAT/XAT/GMAT/NMAT/CMAT scores (higher)
  • Academic Performance (10th, 12th, Graduation, Overall)
  • Work Experience (Company, Months)
  • Extracurricular Achievements (State/National/International if any)
  • SOP: Statement Of Purpose

Below is a list of courses offered and CAT percentile required to qualify:

Are new and baby IIMs worth joining. How are they compared to b-schools like TAPMI or KJ Somaiya. If one had to choose, which is the best choice?

PG
Pratik Gandhi Posted On : April 29th, 2023
B.Tech. CSE, IIT Bombay

The decision to join a particular B-school ultimately depends on your individual career goals, personal preferences, any constraints you might have, and the specific offerings of each institution.

Here are some key factors to consider when comparing new and baby IIMs with other B-schools such as TAPMI or KJ Somaiya. But if you ask me, if you have calls from any of the IIMs, just join them without a doubt. New and baby IIMs have been established relatively recently and may not have the same level of brand recognition and industry connections as older and more established B-schools but the IIM tag matters a lot in the industry.

TAPMI and KJ Somaiya are well-established B-schools with a strong reputation for academic rigor and industry connections. They have a well-developed curriculum over a long history of the institute, faculty with extensive industry experience, and a large network of alumni who can help with job placements and career opportunities.

If you are deciding between these institutions, you should consider factors such as location, cost, faculty, industry connections, and curriculum. Consider your own career goals and whether each institution can help you achieve them.

Which college is better between SIBM Bangalore and TAPMI? The average placements for both the colleges stand the same which makes the decision tough.

JT
Jayant Thakur Posted On : March 9th, 2023

When comparing two B-Schools with similar placements, there are a couple of factors you should consider. Firstly, you should look at the batch size and the brand. TAPMI has a larger batch size compared to SIBM Bangalore, which may lead to more dilution in resource allocation.

On the other hand, a smaller batch size in two equally-matched B-Schools ensures batch quality. The second factor to consider is the brand of the B-School, which is something you should analyze on your own. It is important to understand the brand value of a B-School, as it reflects its reputation in the industry and the quality of education it provides. Ultimately, you should choose a B-School that aligns with your goals and aspirations, and provides you with the best opportunities to achieve them.

Is taking admission in a college like TAPMI, GIM and Great Lakes Chennai a good decision or should I drop a year to try for the IIMs?

AB

KPMG (2019)

If you can afford taking a year drop, then definitely go for it and aim for IIMs or other top B-schools such as IIFT, S.P. Jain, FMS. If you do not achieve a higher score than you did this year, you will have to explain what you did with an extra year to not only IIMs, but to every interview you go. However, I would recommend going through the interviews, seeing what you have converted this year, and then make an informed decision.GIM is also a good institute and so is tapmi, but they don't fall in the same category as IIMs though.

If you're considering pursuing an MBA in Marketing, GIM could be the best option for you. This is because GIM is known for having the best marketing faculty among the options available. The faculty members are highly experienced and knowledgeable, and they provide students with a comprehensive understanding of marketing concepts and practices.

On the other hand, if you're looking for the top-ranked management school among the options provided, GLIM Chennai should be your choice. GLIM Chennai consistently ranks at the top among B-schools in the country, and it has an excellent reputation for providing a world-class education.

Moreover, GLIM Chennai has strong industry linkages and provides students with plenty of opportunities to interact with top recruiters. This is a significant advantage, as it gives students the chance to network with industry leaders and gain valuable insights into the field.

If you're looking to pursue a career in PGDM Marketing, GIM could be the best choice among GLIM, FORE, and TAPMI as it provides excellent training and education in this field. However, if you're looking for a top-ranked institution and want to maximize your chances of getting hired by top recruiters, GLIM Chennai is the way to go.

Ultimately, the decision of which institution to choose depends on your personal goals, preferences, and priorities. Both institutions offer world-class education and exceptional faculty, so it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully before making a final decision.

How do I convert a call from tapmi?

RS
Rishabh Sharma Posted On : June 1st, 2021
PGDM from T. A. Pai Management Institute (2018)

To get into TAPMI, clear the GD session, and perform well in PI. Your marks and CAT score should also be good. Last year my brother applied here. Let me share his experience, which might give you a clear idea.

  • GD topics are mainly taken from current affairs. They might also provide debatable topics, to evaluate the discussion. My brother was given the topic “Should Burqas be Banned During Exams?”. Out of 12 people in the group, 4 were selected for the PI round.
  • In PI, various types of questions were asked. This included from - “Describing Yourself” to “Where do you see yourself in 5 years”. Mention your family background briefly, but mostly concentrate on yourself, your accomplishments, your skills, and your strengths.
  • They also asked about - Why he chose MBA and why in TAPMI. Also why he did not opt for a job but for an MBA. Confidently and answer with honesty, this will definitely create a good impression.
  • After that, you also might be asked about current affairs and your extra-curricular activities. How they benefited you and what role does it play in your career, are some of the things you should be prepared to answer.

Overall, even if you don't have an answer, be confident and speak clearly. If you don't want to bluff your way through an answer, tell them confidently that you don't know.
