Is it true that XLRI does not consider past academics for admission?

IC
Indrani Chatterjee Posted On : May 20th, 2023
PGDM from Xavier School of Management (2018)

Past Academics are not just mere parameters for admission but they evaluate your consistency in performing well across various academic stages. This signifies your flexibility to adapt and maintain a consistent result. Thus a well-maintained and stable academic record ensures your competency and is given more importance than inconsistency in your academic profile.

Most B-School consider past academic records to ensure the student’s ability to give consistently good results. XLRI too is one such institute, the only difference being that initial shortlisting is not done on that basis. This enables candidates with a valid reason for average past academics to justify their profile. In fact, their justification can even convince the panelists to consider them over other candidates with better past academic records.

The reason I am so confident about this is that my sister told me her batchmates comprised both; students with excellent past academic records and students with below-average academic records. These students managed to seek admission by performing excellently in the post-written process.

So, XLRI does consider past academics but not for initial shortlisting and the overall weightage given to academics is comparatively less than other B schools.

  • CMC Vellore's total intake is 100 and the seat breakdown is as follows

Overall, NEET is not the only necessary factor that is considered while selecting students for CMC Vellore. You should ace their exams and perform well in the interviews to increase your chances of admission.

Which is a better place to study, IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay?

SB
Sumit Bose Posted On : March 17th, 2023
IIT Bombay (2019)

Without any second thoughts, I consider IIT Bombay a much better option than IIT Delhi. Some reasons that speak in favor of my opinion are

  • IIT Bombay enjoys a higher locational advantage as well as a better-equipped campus.
  • While both IITs have a decent Research culture, IIT Bombay is at a level higher than IIT Delhi in this aspect. It has a larger number of Papers and Patents to its credit.
  • The ambiance at IIT Bombay is rather chill with no strict rules and regulations. You are free to do anything and no restrictions are imposed on dress code or LAN.
  • IIT Bombay has a better climate than IIT Delhi.
  • IIT Bombay enjoys the advantages of being a Financial capital with additional opportunities for the non-core sector.
  • IIT Bombay has a few BS programs like BS Economics, Mathematics, and Chemistry which are not present in IIT Delhi. These programs are a bridge between engineering and applied science and render a wide scope of research and at the same time, applied fields.
  • IIT Delhi has extra BTech programs like BTech Textile, BTech, and BioTech. The students of these programs usually go for non-core jobs and corporate life.
  • IIT Bombay welcomes a number of eminent personalities. Some recently invited personalities include PM Narendra Modi, Brett Lee, Sadhguru, Yami Gautam.
  • IIT Bombay has amazing hostels for freshers.

So both the institutes are elite in their own essence but nowadays IIT Bombay is a clear winner between the two.

AJ
Advait Joshi Posted On : July 7th, 2023
Lives in Mumbai, Maharashtra, India

The process for calculating the percentage is given below

  • O Grade = 7 Pointer = 70 and above
  • A Grade = 6 Pointer = 60 to 69.99
  • B Grade = 5 Pointer = 55 to 59.99
  • C Grade = 4 Pointer = 50 to 54.99
  • D Grade = 3 Pointer = 45 to 49.99
  • E Grade = 2 Pointer = 40 to 44.99
  • F Grade = 1 Pointer = 39.99 and below
You need to score a minimum of 30 to pass the examination. Initially, you need to convert the 7-point CGPA to a 10-point scale.

If a person has a 5.53 CGPA on 7 point scale CGPA then - (5.53 * 10)/7 = 7.9, which is a 10-point scale CGPA

Now calculate the percentage - 7.9 CGPA*9.3 (standard number used by companies that come for placements) = 73.47%

  • Selection Process: Great Lakes Chennai PGDM admission is done on the basis of CAT/XAT/GMAT/CMAT/MAT scores and your profile. The score is a basis for your shortlisting and the rest depends on your profile and performance. Usually, the admission process includes a written essay and a PI round. Which is better, VIT Vellore, Thapar Patiala or SRM?

PR
Praveen Rao Posted On : May 3rd, 2026

ranking for most people: Thapar > VIT Vellore > SRM — SRM generally last, inconsistent placements and huge batch.

  • Thapar: JEE-based admission so peer quality is better. FCCS system lets you pick timings + professors. CSE avg ~Rs.11.9 LPA. fees ~Rs.4.6L/year. great for north India jobs. Patiala city is quiet but academics are solid
  • VIT Vellore: near Chennai + Bangalore = more industry exposure and startup culture. NIRF rank 11 engineering. fees ~Rs.2.5L/year. batch size huge (~8,000/year) pulls down averages though. south India students generally thrive here
  • SRM: okay for CSE if other options fall through. decent but inconsistent placements

for CSE at all three — go Thapar if north India jobs and better peer quality matter. go VIT if south India + industry exposure is more important or you want to save on fees. SRM only as last resort ngl.
