What should I opt for, lllT Naya Raipur or NIT Raipur?
When it comes to choosing between IIIT-NR and NIT Raipur, it's recommended to go with NIT Raipur for the following reasons:
- IIITs are undoubtedly among the best institutions in the country for providing ECE and CSE courses. However, IIIT-NR is a relatively new and small college with a smaller college strength.
- IIIT-NR lacks well-established clubs, committees, and Training and Placement offices, which can be a disadvantage for students.
- On the other hand, NIT Raipur is an old and established college with strong alumni support, numerous events, and a well-equipped Placement cell. Being a part of cultural, technical, or managerial events can help students enhance their skills and network with industry experts.
- While NIT Raipur may appear old and dusty, it has a proven track record of successful placements and a sure future for its students.
- It's always better to go for a sure future than to take a risk with a not-so-sure future.
Therefore, if you have the choice between IIIT-NR and NIT Raipur, it's recommended to choose NIT Raipur for a better chance at a successful career.
How good is NIT Raipur CSE? Is it better than NIT Jamshedpur or Durgapur?

My brother completed his B. Tech in Biotechnology from NIT Raipur in May 2016. The reason for choosing it was because of the brand value. But after being in the college and started taking interest in the studies and various activities, it went on to be a great 4-year long journey.
- Biotechnology is an amazing subject with many interdisciplinary projects coming up your way. You can always combine your knowledge of biotechnology with other fields, like Electronics,
It is a trustworthy institute for CSE. You will have to work yourself to achieve something big.
Companies that visit NIT Raipur include some good names but not the high-end ones like Google, Facebook but the ones like Oracle, Samsung, Infosys, CTS, CIL, BPCL, Mu-Sigma, Polaris, Yodlee, Analytics Quotient, Tricon Infotech, Capgemini, Wipro, Barclays, Amazon, Pradan, Resonance, etc.

The number and level of the companies which visit the campus is going to go up in the coming years. The institute is fast developing in every aspect, be it infrastructure or the quality of students taking admission each year.
With a score of 170 in JEE Main, you have a pretty good chance of getting admission in CSE through the home state quota. You might even end up getting some other branches like EE, ECE, etc.
One of my friends has passed the third year from CSE, NIT Raipur, and is interning with the UnitedHealth Group, the sixth on the Fortune 500 list of companies.
Should I take the biotechnology branch in NIT Raipur?
I am an alumnus of Biotechnology at NIT Raipur. Initially, I entered this program because of the NIT tag of this institution. But with time, I developed a keen interest in this branch.
Here are some highlights of Biotech at NIT Raipur-
- Biotech is a great branch that demands hard work and dedication.
- With the increase in interdisciplinary projects, Biotechnology contributes to other fields as well, like Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanics, etc. These projects are innovative and interesting.
- The college library is good and contains an ample number of relevant books on Biotechnology.
- The faculty is very supportive, approachable and helpful. Not only will they help you in academics, but you can also ask them for their guidance in any projects or research work.
- In case of doubts and for better learning, you check out NPTEL, Coursera, and Khan Academy.
- If you lose an interest in this field, you can eventually go for an MBA.
- A B.Tech in Biotechnology might not fetch you a satisfactory job. You’ll most probably go for a Master’s later on.
- The field covers a broad range of topics. After understanding all the disciplines covered in this branch, you can ultimately choose your research area.
Research a bit about the syllabus and scope of this branch. If you feel comfortable studying it, you can definitely choose NIT Raipur for your studies.
How is life at NIT Raipur for a B.Tech student for 4 years?
Every NIT and IIT has a plethora of brilliant and multi-talented students from all over India. Luckily, I have few friends from NIT Raipur who are now alumni. My friends had a mixed experience there, which is enough to give you a gist.
- Campus: NIT Raipur doesn’t have a very vast campus to boast of. However, you won’t be lacking any basic facility there. There are basketball, volleyball, football and cricket grounds for sports lovers.
- Mess/Canteen: The hostel mess is just satisfactorywith every Sunday afternoons being overly crowded. You will see people climbing up the tables to draw fresh hot 'Puris' and burning their hands. You will also see a few people fighting over the amount of paneer and Chicken pieces with the mess staff. My friends usually went for cheaper options like outside restaurants like Punjabi Dhaba, Bajrangi Dhaba, Little Hut, etc.
- Hostel life: Just like every college, people living in hostels have the best college life. However, due to less number of hostels, many students live outside. If you are a girl, then you will face more harsh rules like no entry after 6 pm in the evening except in case of special permissions, etc. On Friday/ Wednesday evenings you can see most couples roaming out. Every Wednesday night the whole boys' hostel will be empty due to the cheapest movie tickets.
- Peers: You will be interacting with so many talents from all over India, you will never be alone. Also, ragging is not practiced at all. Yes, seniors may approach for interaction which is nothing to worry about. You might need their guidance and help later.
Every year students also organize fests like Electrika, Samar, etc. There is no doubt that you will enjoy your duration at the institute.
How is the hostel facility for girls at NIT Raipur?
NIT Raipur offers separate hostel facilities for girls with a capacity of over 1200 students. Here are some key features and amenities of the hostel facility for girls at NIT Raipur:
- Accommodation
The hostel rooms are spacious and well-ventilated, providing a comfortable and conducive environment for studying and relaxation. Each room is furnished with a bed, mattress, table, chair, and cupboard.
- Safety and Security
The safety and security of the students are of utmost importance at NIT Raipur. The hostel premises are under 24/7 surveillance, and security personnel is stationed at the entrance to ensure that only authorized persons enter the hostel.

Are hostels currently available for all the students in NIT Raipur?
One of my friends is from this Institute, so I am quite aware of the situation. The hostel at the campus is basically available for only 30% of students and the rest of the students stay in a PG or private hostel or in nearby localities.
Hostels seats are allocated on a first come first serve basis. My friend was a little late for the admissions, so she had no choice but to stay in a private hostel. The monthly rent for the room and the mess facility is approximately 5000. The total fee for 1 year is 55,000 for a private hostel.
My friend belongs to an SC category, so even with the lower pointer, she was able to get a seat at Campus Hostel in the second year. The annual fee of the Campus Hostel is around 25,000, which should be paid in two installments (one in each semester).
Admission procedure for girls hostel:
- Recently, there has been a major change in the admission procedure. Now there are no reserved seats for the SC/ST/OBC category students. The seats are allocated only on the basis of grades.
- This step was taken because few Girls filed a complaint that they are not getting campus hostel just because they belong to General Category.
- In time: Girls are not allowed to go out after 8 pm.
Boys Hostel Admission procedure:
- For Boys the admission procedure is similar to girls, there is no reservation of seats.
- In time: For boys in a time of hostel is 11 p.m.
Hostel facilities should be available for all the students on campus like other IITs/most NITs. This will also provide a safe and good environment for students.
How is the electrical branch at NIT Raipur?
The Electrical branch at NIT Raipur is highly reputed in India. Here is a list of its pros and cons that will help you understand the credibility of the branch.
Pros
- The branch has an excellent faculty profile who are highly experienced and learned. Their Letter of Recommendation can shape your career for the better given that you have good grades and projects.
- The department won’t detain you for skipping classes and I can prepare for GATE/CAT whenever you have free time.
- NIT Raipur conducts several competitions like VIGYAAN, the science exhibition, robotics workshops, etc. that give students knowledge and interest in the field of robotics.
- The college provides pretty decent internship opportunities to students in companies like Tata Steel, Vedanta, TVS, Jindal, BARC, etc
- Last year, the branch received 62 offers in all and the students eligible for placements were 68.
Cons
- The learning environment is not well-facilitated.
- The lab sessions are monotonous and the equipment is obsolete
- The syllabus is outdated and needs revision and upgradation.
- Core jobs are rare so most of the students are placed in software companies.
- The infrastructure is not up to the mark which affects the learning experience.
- The gender ratio is poor, around 1:5 for girls: and boys.
- The exposure offered is limited and very few industrial visits are made.
Ultimately, it depends on your talents and interests if this branch is good for you or not!
How were Yash Srivastava and Harsh Srivastava, brothers from NIT Raipur able to bag offer of 75 LPA?
Yash Srivastava and his brother, Harsh Srivastava from NIT Raipur were definitely able to bag the tremendous offer of 75 LPA because they had been working hard. If you heard of Codechef, there’s a possibility that you may have heard about them.
They were in the top 2 positions for coding in the institute during their time, at the institute. Other students used to fight for the 3rd spot. That’s because they were the best in coding. They have worked hard to learn algorithms with the help of the internet.
I have a friend who was in the same batch with them. According to him, they used to solve coding problems every day.
I don’t know much about their interview but they loved to do coding.
How is civil engineering in IIEST, Shibpur in comparision to NIT, Raipur?
IIEST Shibpur is an excellent institute for courses in engineering, especially civil engineering. It is a well-established and well-known branch. There are several advantages of being in IIEST Shibpur and having a degree from the institute.
My brother has studied there and the points below are his experience at the institute:
- There are excellent faculties in the Civil engineering department, except a couple of faculties who are not that great as evident from student reviews.
- There are innumerous projects and researches going on in the Civil engineering department at IIEST. The teachers and lecturers are excellent in their guidance for students interested in project works and show a lot of enthusiasm in the same.
- Above all, IIEST has gained central status a few years back, which ensures the development in research and teaching methodologies even further with time.
Therefore, Civil engineering at IIEST is definitely a great choice for students, maybe even better than NIT Raipur in certain areas.
