Does BIET Jhansi and KNIT Sultanpur Computer Science better than non-core branches at IET Lucknow?

As you have come up with this doubt, I assume that you have got a good rank in UPSEE. So, congratulations on securing a good rank in UPSEE that gave you the opportunity to choose from such elite institutions.

Unless and until it is an IIT, core branches are always a better choice than non-core branches.

Forget about non-core branches in UP government colleges, there is not much facilities and exposure. So, if you are getting a chance, it is highly recommended to go for CSE in BIET or KNIT because in CSE or IT, you just need a laptop and good internet connectivity and these colleges provide WIFI facility. You will have to indulge yourself in regular practice to bring the best out of yourself, as everything is available on the internet.

CSE would be a better choice if you look forward to getting placed after your graduation. If you want to pursue higher studies then, non-core branches at IET Lucknow will give you a better exposure such as coaching institutes, because of its location.

Which is a better option, IT IIEST Shibpur or CSE at IEM?

SR
Shweta Roy Posted On : October 18th, 2023

Here is some information to assist you in choice-making-

Snapdeal, Amazon, Google, etc. visit IIEST Shibpur and offer equal placement opportunities to both IT and CSE students. My roommate from IT got into Snapdeal through campus placement.

IEM isn’t a well-known college. It is a local college unlike IIEST, which is an institute of national importance. The campus size of IEM is very small. Big companies don’t usually visit small colleges like IEM.

The college tag has a value of its own. Besides, the opportunities and exposure offered by IIEST are immense.

Thus, I would recommend you opt for IT at IIEST Shibpur.

How is CSE in MANIT Bhopal as I wish to join MANIT this year?

SB
Surendra Bose Posted On : November 8th, 2023
Studied at Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology, Bhopal

B.Tech CS offered by MANIT has its own cons. Here is some information about the same-

  1. The topics taught in first year are mostly non related to your branch. Pay attention to Programming and Communication Skills taught during this time.
  2. A lot of time is wasted in the labs, learning outdated topics.
  3. Around 20% of the syllabus is outdated, and students solely rely on coding for good job offers. Thus, most of them go into Soft Skills rather than R&D positions.
  4. Internet connectivity is crippled by throttling and capping in the hostels.
  5. The files and sessionals are copy pasted.
  6. CS students get tier-2 and 3 companies through campus placements. They jump into tier-1 companies after a while. So, even though there is 100% placement, the ground reality is a bit different.

The CSE offered at MANIT Bhopal is decent, and requires a lot of effort from your side. I would suggest you learn C programming language before joining the college.

I am currently pursuing 1st year B.tech (CSE) in NIT Raipur. Can I give JEE Mains next year and take admission in another NIT or IIIT?

AM
Aditya Mishra Posted On : September 9th, 2023
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Raipur

Yes, you can surely attempt your JEE Mains/Advanced/BITS. Many students do the same. There are (and have been) at least 1 or 2 such students in every batch of NIT Raipur.

But I would advise you not to opt for just any other NIT. Choose an NIT which is at least 5-6 ranks above NIT Raipur. Otherwise, switching to another NIT will prove ineffective. The same goes for IIITs, choose only the old ones.

This is because NIT Raipur offers decent placements for CSE, at par with the NITs of the same stature. So wasting a year for NIT Jamshedpur or NIT Durgapur will be fruitless. If you go for JEE counseling, you’ll have to withdraw from your NIT Raipur seat first. To be on the safe side, go for the counseling only with a score high enough to get you CSE in a better ranking NIT. Otherwise, you might get NIT Raipur once again. This has happened with students in the past.

I hope this advice will help you make wise decisions regarding your college switch.

Which is better, NIT Silchar CSE or IIIT Jabalpur CSE?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 25th, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

Both NIT Silchar as well as IIIT Jabalpur are backed by the Government of India and have similar facilities. The campus, faculty, and alumni network are great in both cases. However, there are some additional parameters in which IIIT Jabalpur fares better making it a more preferable choice. Some of them have been mentioned below

  • Location : Jabalpur enjoys a good location in the heart of the country while NIT Silchar is located remotely in the North-East. Therefore IIIT Jabalpur has better connectivity and exposure.
  • International collaboration: IIIT Jabalpur has ties with Japan resulting in frequent lectures conducted by Japanese faculty and frequent visits to Japan. Such international ties give it an edge over NIT Silchar in the kind of opportunities offered.
  • Clubs: IIIT Jabalpur has several technical, cultural, and sports clubs, constituting the Student Gymkhana that ensures the holistic development of the students.
  • Coding Culture: The institute is known to have an active coding culture that is promoted by many active programming, web development, and graphics designing clubs.

Overall, if you are passionate about academics and research, then go for IIIT Jabalpur but if you want a more vibrant college life choose NIT Silchar.

Which is better: CS in BIT Mesra or CS in MANIT Bhopal?

HG
Himanshu Garg Posted On : April 20th, 2021
B.E Computer Science, Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (2019)

If you compare them in terms of placement, infrastructure, ambiance, and alumni network BIT Mesra has an upper hand over MANIT Bhopal.

Being a 60 years old institute, BIT has an alumni network spread globally at Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Amazon. One of the alumni even won Oscars recently for the best-animated movie.

BIT has great records in ICPC contests. The campus is amazing. Seniors are very helpful. The campus is ragging-free and poses an amazing infrastructure. IET, IEEE, ACM conducts various free workshops to enhance the skills of students.

MANIT Bhopal has an edge over BIT Mesra in terms of tuition fees. NITs are even regarded highly in terms of their brand name. This is the reason why BIT has a higher cutoff compared to NITs.

Should I go to IIIT Bhagalpur (Bihar) for CSE considering that it is being mentored by IIT Guwahati?

AR
Aditi Roy Posted On : May 1st, 2023
lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh, India

If you are considering IIIT Bhagalpur as a new college, it is important to weigh the advantages and disadvantages of attending a newly established institution. On the other hand, IIT Guwahati has a well-established reputation as one of the premier IITs in the country. Here are some things to keep in mind:

  1. IIIT Bhagalpur is a new college: As a new college, IIIT Bhagalpur may face some difficulties in establishing itself and proving its worth as a good college. It may take some time for the college to build its reputation and for its students to benefit from the resources and facilities that come with a well-established institution.
  2. IIT Guwahati is a premier institution: As one of the premier IITs in the country, IIT Guwahati has a well-established reputation and a long history of producing successful engineers. The college is known for its high-quality faculty, excellent infrastructure, and strong alumni network.
  3. Funding can make a difference: Both IIIT Bhagalpur and IIT Guwahati receive funds from the government and other sources. However, IIT Guwahati may be able to make more significant changes to its infrastructure and facilities due to the larger amount of funding it receives as an established institution.
  4. IIT Guwahati has a bright future: Given its reputation and the funding it receives, it is likely that IIT Guwahati will continue to improve and maintain its position as one of the top engineering institutes in the country. Choosing to attend IIT Guwahati may provide you with access to top-notch faculty, resources, and placement opportunities.

In conclusion, while IIIT Bhagalpur may have potential as a new college, it is important to weigh the risks and benefits of attending a newly established institution. If you are looking for a well-established institution with a strong reputation, then IIT Guwahati may be a better choice. The college's history of producing successful engineers and strong funding may provide you with a better overall educational experience and greater career opportunities.

Is it true that IIIT Delhi is very strict, completely academic-oriented, and only people with very high interest in a CSE should only join there?

RD
Raya Das Posted On : October 9th, 2023
Studied at Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (2019)

Academics is the top most priority of IIIT Delhi. Everything else takes a backseat. This may be because it is branded as a research institute.

If you wish to pursue research in CSE or complete your MS/Ph.D. from a foreign university, choose IIIT Delhi. Academically, IIITD is comparable to IIT Bombay, IIIT Hyderabad, etc. But don’t choose IIIT Delhi if you are planning for an MBA later on. In this case, you might end up dropping out due to a loss of interest in this course.

As for placements, more than 95% of B.Tech CSE students are placed each year. However, very few non-tech companies visit the campus. As ECE receives very few core companies, students from both branches compete against each other for tech jobs.

Based on your own priorities and goals, decide whether or not to choose IIITD for your CSE course.

Which is better, LNMIIT CSE or NIT Agartala CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : September 18th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

I feel LMNIIT CSE is a much better choice than NIT Agartala CSE provided that you have the financial means to get admission there. Here is why I feel it's better than NIT Agartala

  • LMNIIT has a more updated and flexible curriculum than NIT Agartala.
  • LMNIIT has a better crowd since the admissions are purely based on merit and there is no reservation policy.
  • Many IT giants visit LMNIIT every year for placements which isn't the case at NIT Agartala as the job opportunities are limited there.
  • Jaipur has better opportunities for preparation for competitive exams like CAT and GRE.
  • LNMIIT is not a private college but a Public Private Partnership so you will avail the benefits of this high brand value in the industry.

So, is better to look beyond the NIT tag and choose LMNIIT because the tag does not matter much more than academics and placements.
