Hello, my name is Junaid Khan. I've completed a B.Tech in Chemical Engineering from NIT Trichy. As per my knowledge, it is not possible to transfer from an IIT to an NIT in the 2nd year. One of my friends has just completed his 1st year at IIT Madras. Due to personal issues, he wanted to transfer from his IIT to an NIT in the 2nd year, but he could not. 

Both NIT and IIT have limited seats and a strict admission process for their courses. Also, any NIT college in India does not offer Lateral entry. It doesn't matter whether you have completed a 3-year Diploma course, but admission into NIT from 2nd year is not possible anyway. 

However, in IIT one can opt for BTech directly from 2nd year through lateral entry. Candidates who wish to transfer from IIT to NIT, have no other option but to waste one year. Students then need to sit for the JEE Main exam again and register themselves for NIT admissions. 

Yes, NITs are much cheaper than IITs. NITs and IITs are prestigious institutes in India, known for their Engineering courses. However, some key differences make NITs a cheaper and better option than some IITs. 

NITs are funded by the government of that particular state, while IITs are directly funded by the Central Government. Both NITs and IITs have good infrastructure and modern laboratories. NITs offer equal facilities, education, etc. at a lower fee than several IITs. 

NITs are much cheaper than IITs. IITs on average charge INR 1.50 - 6.70 Lakhs as the annual tuition fee for UG courses. On the other hand, the lowest annual tuition fee at an NIT for UG courses is INR 50,000. Similarly, the hostel fees, admission fees, and fees for different amenities are much cheaper at NITs. 

Despite its low fees, NIT Trichy is placed among the top 10 Engineering colleges in India by various Ranking agencies, leaving behind 2nd and 3rd generation IITs.

Both NIT Trichy and BITS Pilani are excellent Institutions. But NIT Trichy is better than BITS Pilani. Following are some reasons why I prefer NIT Trichy over BITS Pilani:

• Education Quality: NIT Trichy is an internationally recognised centre of excellence for teaching and research. The course curriculum at NIT Trichy is a blend of the conventional and the radical and is updated regularly to meet the growing industry demands and changing trends. 

The separate departments at NIT Trichy for Engineering, Architecture, etc. are responsible for creating a world-class learning environment to meet the challenges of the modern world. 

• Admission & Faculties: NIT Trichy has highly qualified faculty with an experience of more than 15 years. NIT Trichy has very limited seats for its various programs which develops a very high competition and only the top students get the admission opportunity at NITT. 
• Course Fees: The Fee Structure for different courses at NIT Trichy is way less compared to BITS Pilani. Where candidates have to pay INR 5-6 Lakhs per year for BTech at BITS Pilani, they can pursue the same course for INR 1.46- 1.75 Lakhs per year from NIT Trichy.
• Placements: Placement is the most important factor that attracts students to NIT Trichy. NIT Trichy is renowned for its lucrative placement opportunities and high ROI (Return on Investment). The direct answer to the question is “No”, NIT Trichy does not offer direct admission to any of its courses.

Admission into NIT Trichy is offered solely based on entrance exams. For different courses, NIT Trichy considers scores of different entrance exams-

• For BTech admissions, aspirants need to qualify JEE Main entrance exam
• For MBA courses, CAT scores are required
• For BSc, MA, etc. courses one needs to qualify CUET/ CUET PG
• MCA admissions at NIT Trichy are offered through NIMCET scores
• MTech admissions are granted based on GATE scores.

Hence, the admissions at NIT Trichy are solely based on entrance exam scores. The same may be followed by a GD/PI round.
