My brother is currently a 2nd-year student at Jadavpur University. Here is a glimpse of the beautiful experience he had till now:
The amazing campus, guidance of professors, and essence of college life can't be summed up in a few words. You won’t regret taking admission at JU and will call it an experience of a lifetime.
If you aren’t getting old IITs, top NITs (Trichy, Surathkal, Warangal, Trichy), Jadavpur University is one of the best choices available. The faculties are highly qualified and experienced. It has a great research culture. Jadavpur offers excellent academic culture, and peer group.
The institute also has an impressive placement record. Jadavpur University placements in 2021 concluded with an average CTC of INR 10.2 LPA. The highest CTC was INR 58 LPA. Major industry giants such as Google, Amazon, and Facebook visit the campus drive of the university.
The eligibility for lateral entry at Jadavpur University is 50% in diploma. If you have the required percentage you can sit for JELET. A valid rank will be considered for admission.
The number of seats for lateral entry at Jadavpur University is limited. So, in order to get selected, you will need to score higher ranks. Otherwise, you will have to go to the Govt. colleges like JGEC, or KGEC.
Both Jadavpur University and ISM Dhanbad are reputed institutes. ISM was already quite reputed across India and after getting the IIT tag, the institute has improved quite significantly.
So, take these factors into consideration, and choose according to your convenience.
Both the colleges have their pros and cons. Your choice of college should be based on branch. I did my Mechanical from NIT Durgapur and my friend did his Mechanical from Jadavpur University. I am eligible to answer this question.
First of all, JU is much higher in ranking than NIT Durgapur. Also, the fees at JU are way more affordable. As JU is located in Kolkata, IT companies visit the campus more often. As far as core courses are concerned, the faculty for ME especially, is good at both the colleges. But core placements are much better at NIT Durgapur because PSUs visit the campus. On the other hand, JU students have to sit for GATE.
If you wish to study CS, IT or ECE, choose Jadavpur University without second thought. As far as core jobs are concerned, choose NIT Durgapur.
IIEST Shibpur and Jadavpur University both are quite reputed universities. Over the past few years, the former has improved a lot too. However, choosing JU for your CSE degree will be better. Also, you should note that IIEST offers integrated M.Tech courses.
Although IIEST Shibpur is quite reputed, its placement record is not comparable to that of JU. In the recent placement drive at JU, the placement average was 100%. The average CTC offered at the campus was 19 LPA. Apart from the placement, there are also great research opportunities at JU.
The transformation of IIEST from BESU, has been quite effective. With time, IIEST can even become better than JU. However, as of now, JU is the better alternative.
Jadavpur University is renowned for its educational quality and is recognized worldwide. It is a member of AIU and NAAC accredited.
As per one of the alumni’s experiences, Sanskriti is the coolest thing about the university.
The best part is that no money gets out of the pockets of students. The university bears all expenses. Overall, there are many things to list, but the campus festivals are the best way to unite.
CGPA, or SGPA (Semester Grade Point Average) in Jadavpur University is estimated using several weighted means. Every course of the institute has credit points equal to the respective weights. The SGPA is equal to [summation(f *x)/summation(f)], where “f” denotes credit points, while “x” denotes the absolute grade point in a subject.
The summation, in a way, is supposed to be taken over in the courses per semester.
Here is how the administration signifies the absolute grade points,
Unlike the grading system followed in IITs, Jadavpur University typically follows an absolute grading system. NITs, quite similarly, use the highest grade point as 85–90, while the second highest is 75–85. Thus, the GPA would supposedly be less, as opposed to either NITs or IITs. For example, a 9 pointer is supposed to gain a percentage between the range of 75 to 85. But, in JU, a percentage of 78% will be a close GPA of around 8.3.
Many of my friends attended Jadavpur University. Here is their advice for you.
These are some of the things that you need to know if you are thinking of joining Jadavpur University.
Jadavpur University placement records are much better than many IITs and NITs. Here are the highlights from the recent placement drive:
| Particulars | Placements 2021 |
| No. of companies participated | 80+ |
| Highest CTC offered | 42 LPA |
| Average CTC offered | 19.96 LPA |
| Placement average | 100% |
| No of students registered | 200+ |
Branches such as CSE, IT had better placement records compared to the rest. Students got placed in different sectors of the industry such as Finance, Consulting, IT Software, E-commerce, etc.
Some of the major recruiting companies that visited the placement drive were Amazon, Bajaj Auto, CGI, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.
