M.Tech in Civil Engineering at IIT Bhubaneswar is not as lucrative in terms of the placement scenario as compared to B.Tech. However, some renowned PSUs like GALE, IOCL, NHAI, and others recruit a small fraction of students from M.Tech also. IIT Bhubaneswar ranks 17th in the Engineering category by NIRF 2019. It was established in 2008 by the government of India. The campus is located in the city itself. It has hostel facilities, Mess facilities, gym, sports grounds and courts, Clubs, canteens, cafeteria, multi-purpose store, dispensaries, etc.

IIT Bhubaneswar has hostel facilities for MTech students for boys and girls both in the campus. Students will be able to purchase Mattress, Bed Sheet, Pillow and Pillow Cover, Mosquito Repellent, Bucket, Mug, Notebooks, Bags, etc. The Hostel has a capacity of 800 male students and 200 female students. The hostel rooms are for a single occupant. It has ATMs with 24x7 security for the campus and has wifi connection in each room. Like other IITs the campus have their own Gymkhana club which organizes regular events like sports, music, tech, etc. they also have cultural events, fests, workshops, etc. The campus has its own Healthcare team of professionals and also has separate dispensaries for boys and girls.

GATE cutoff varies based on the categories of the qualified candidates, and subjects. The previous year’s GATE cutoff for computer science at IIT Bhubaneswar for different categories of candidates was General (625), OBC (563), SC (419), and ST (419). Computer science engineering comes under the school of electrical sciences in IIT Bhubaneswar and has the highest GATE cutoff than other engineering departments. These are the relevant cutoff according to the COAP ( Common offer acceptance portal).

All the students who qualified GATE and want to take admission in IIT Bhubaneswar have to apply individually for the M.Tech program. IIT Bhubaneswar also conducts a written test and viva for the admission in M.Tech courses.

Metallurgical Engineering program in IIT Bhubaneswar is quite good. A few of the subjects in the course include Polymers & Nanocomposites, Materials in archaeology, Materials recycling and sustainability, etc. The faculty of the metallurgy department are well qualified and experienced. The college provides a research-oriented environment and the curriculum also includes a number of field trips as it is located in Odisha which is blessed with minerals. Students also gain a major exposure through internships which they attain the second year of the course. The annual fees charged by the college is close to 2.13 LPA INR for its B. Tech course.

120 students appeared for the placement season of 2018-19. 90% of the Metallurgical Branch got placed in the year 2018-19. The average package offered was 11.44 LPA INR. 89 companies visited the campus in the year 2018-19. IIT Bhubaneswar offers a decent Post-Doctoral Fellowship program. This program is offered initially for a period of 1 year and can be extended for another year based on the reviews of the contributions made to the institute by the fellow.

The fellow is required to participate in the teaching and research activities of the institute. He/She is also expected to mentor and guide students and carry out other academics related assignments as allotted by the institute during their fellowship.

The candidate should be below 35 years of age preferably and should have a consistently good academic record followed by a Ph.D. degree in the relevant field. The Ph.D. degree must not be any older than two years.

The stipend for fellowship ranges between 45,000-55,000 depending on the experience and qualification of the candidate. Other benefits like accommodation and house rate allowance are also admissible.

For admission into M.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar, students are shortlisted on the basis of their GATE score. This institute conducts a written test and an interview to select the shortlisted student for admission. Before the interview, the selected candidates need to appear in a written test, and only those who pass the test are considered eligible for the interview. There is no negative marking in the test and the subjects covered for ECE are Communications, Signals, EMT, Digital, Analog, EDC, and Maths.

The pattern of the written test is as follows:

• 35 questions for 90 minutes.
• 1-20 questions which are 1 mark questions.

The result of the written test is declared within one hour of the exam. And, the selected students are required to go through an interview in order to get admission.
