If you are looking for a college with great exposure, excellent placement rates, and a well-rounded college life with a strong curriculum, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology is definitely a great choice. Compared to BITS Goa, Thapar offers much more advantages.
Here are some reasons why you should consider Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology:
Compared to BITS Goa, Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology offers better placement opportunities, a more active college life, and a stronger curriculum. Therefore, if you want to take your life to new heights in the future, Thapar would be a great choice.
I have a friend from Thapar University and he was able to provide some information regarding this. In the B.E. Electrical course, you can secure internship opportunities twice, wherein the first one will be in the 8th semester, and the other one is a 6 week-long training period.
For the 6-week training, you will need to search for internship opportunities, especially on your own in numerous parts of the industry. The firms can range anywhere from a reactor plant, a thermal plant, or a hydroelectric plant. It depends upon your academic exposure and credentials. The work should be related to the branch and the topics you are familiar with. Make sure to create the file with accurate and standard formatting, to avoid mark deduction.
I know people from these institutes and based on the conversations I had with them, I will say the preference order should be somewhat like below.
CSE MSIT ~ IT MAIT > ICE Thapar
Since you are considering different branches, it is clear that you don’t have any inclination towards a specific branch or specialization. If it’s true I will suggest don’t go for ICE Thapar. It is a core branch that already has fewer job opportunities in the industry. To score a decent placement at a core company for this branch you will need to be at the top of your class. Else, you are likely to end up in mass recruiting companies or software companies.
So, it will be better to stay in Delhi, it will be cost-effective, you can save up for your postgraduate degree and pursue what is in demand currently.
Among these three colleges it will be better if you go for CSE at MSIT. As CSE is the most sorted department which will provide you with immense opportunities in the corporate field.
It is recommended that you do not opt for Thapar or especially electronics and instrumentation, as your scope will become limited. CSE or IT will open several gates for your future ahead.
Since you do not have any inclination towards any branch, a core branch like ICE which will require you to be one of the top students in the batch to secure a good job in the core company. Or you will get offered a job from mass recruitment companies.
So it is better to pay less for your undergraduate degree, stay in Delhi and pursue the course in demand.
BITS Pilani Goa campus is obviously a much bigger brand than Thapar University. So you will definitely get better placement opportunities at the BITS Pilani Goa campus rather than Thapar University.
Take a look at some of the statistics of Thapar University for the year 2019-20.
| Companies visiting | 264 |
| Total students placed | 971 |
| Total offers received | 996 |
| Number of single offers | 946 |
| Number of multiple offers | 25 |
BITS Pilani does not release an official placement report. However, according to my friends at the institute, the average CTC offered at the institute is 5 LPA and the highest CTC offered is INR 1.4 crores.
Thapar University assigns 19 unreserved seats in each branch to GATE qualifiers. 11 seats are assigned to reserved category students and non GATE candidates. Generally these 11 seats remain empty. They are then filled with general category GATE qualifiers.
As a general category, if you are among the top 19 admits, you’ll receive the GATE stipend. But if you get admission in one of the remaining 11 seats, you won’t be eligible for the stipend.
I have a few friends who graduated from Thapar University and according to them, there is no such or major difference between COE, CAG, and CML. As well as in terms of placements and job opportunities there can be no difference found. COE includes both the software as well as the hardware aspects of a system. If you are interested in job opportunities in the gaming industry or graphics-related industry then you should definitely go for it. Your job opportunities will not be affected by your branch.
These subjects were introduced to give students options as per their interest further in COE. From the 4th semester onwards you are given the option to choose between any of the three.
That was the same question my friend had in mind when he decided to enroll at Thapar University. He is also from another state. But, aside from occasionally communicating with local vendors, he had not come across any problems.
The environment for study and other activities is the same for students from other states as well as those from Punjab. There are students from every state in the country. So don't be concerned.
Half of the people are from outside the country, and they have no problems. Their campus is large and well-kept, and you will feel at home there.
You'll make many Punjabi friends from Amritsar, Ludhiana, and Patiala. Inside and outside category students coexist in harmony and respect.
The hostels are also good, and they are assigned year by year, which helps to bring people from the same year and different branches together.
So overall, you will have a good experience here.
According to one of my friend's opinions, if you belong to the state Punjab and have completed your studies till class 12 there then you can take a chance for a counseling round.
But if not there are very less chances with a JEE Mains rank of 47,000 and it seems difficult mostly to the students belonging to the general category.
The recent cut-off has been indicated below that can give you a reference regarding the JEE Mains rank:
| Year/Category | General | OBC | SC |
| 2020 | 426 | 106844 | 155233 |
From the above table you can clearly get an idea regarding the level of difficulty that a general candidate faces.
Work hard and score a good percentile score to get admission to one of the leading universities in the country.
Migration is possible to Thapar University in the month of December.
Each year Thapar conducts an entrance test in December to fill its vacant seats. The test is prepared from 11th and 12th curriculum, but it also contains some questions from first semester subjects.
Thapar University updates all the related information on its official website.
