Yes, IIT Madras is underrated. It has been ranked as the top technical institute in the country and offers unparalleled academics. For research-oriented works, it is the best among the technological institutes in the country. It has a fully functioning research park that sets it apart.

But many students prefer IIT Bombay over II Madras. Location is the key reason behind it.

How can we expect JEE advanced paper framed by IIT Madras?

PK
Pranay Kundu Posted On : July 26th, 2021
Studied at IIT Madras (2019)

Being the third oldest IIT, I would say you can expect a kind of toughness in its curriculum. As IITM has to maintain the quality and the standards of the institute.

As I have some information about it, I can say that nothing can be predicted by only seeing the last time paper of IIT Madras.

  • There can be much diversity in the paper as it is not just set by repeatedly those professors who set the paper earlier.
  • There is a lot of chance that the paper might be different from previous years.
  • As the JEE Advanced paper of last year (2010) set by IITM was having its Maths section tricky so you can expect good quality questions in advance (2017).
  • IIT Madras played a psychological game last time. This means last time there were 21 questions in maths which didn’t have the proper answer so you had to be very careful while answering.

This was a short brief on the paper framing and what you cannot expect is a repetition of questions.

Which is better for an MTech: IIT Delhi or IIT Madras?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 17th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

One of my cousins was in a similar dilemma and she considered the following points before making her decision.

  • Placements-wise, IIT Delhi gives a slight edge to IIT Madras although as a whole the scenario is pretty much the same.
  • The campus ambiance and culture as a whole of IIT Madras are more driven toward individual personality development.
  • If you are planning to start your own business one day, IIT Madras is the right place for you. Its rich startup- culture focuses on inculcating entrepreneurial skills in the students.
  • IIT Madras campus has a better climate than outside the campus so most of the time you will be spending inside the campus.

Although both the colleges have their unique strengths and weaknesses, IIT Madras seems to be a slightly better option than IIT Delhi especially if you are a nature lover !

How safe is IIT Madras for girls?

AS
Aditi Sengupta Posted On : March 29th, 2023
Studied at the Indian Institute of Technology, Madras

If you are a female student planning to attend an Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and wondering about the safety of the campuses, you will be glad to know that all IITs are generally safe for all human beings, including females.

Specifically, if you are considering IIT Madras, you should know that the female students' hostels are located in the best possible location in terms of safety and resources.

Here are some important points to keep in mind:

  • Most of the female hostels at IIT Madras are located near the main academic and administrative buildings, as well as the library and eateries. This means that you will not have to travel far to access these essential resources.
  • Only one hostel, Tunga, is located at a different location, away from the other female hostels. However, this hostel is still located within the main campus area and is not too far away from the other buildings.
  • There used to be a gate called K-Gate (Krishna Gate) near Tunga hostel that led directly to the nearby Chennai local area. However, there were some incidents in the past related to misbehavior and comments on female students, and as a result, the gate has been closed. This means that no one can use that gate anymore, and it should not pose a safety concern.
  • Within the campus, the atmosphere is generally cool and friendly among all students, regardless of gender. As with any large educational institution, there may be occasional incidents or issues that arise, but the administration is generally proactive in addressing them and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.

Overall, if you are considering IIT Madras as a female student, you can rest assured that the campus is generally safe and well-equipped to meet your academic and personal needs.

What is your opinion about IIT Madras's online BSc degree?

PC
Prodorshita Chatterjee Posted On : July 26th, 2021
Studied at IIT Kharagpur (2019)

IIT Madras is one of the best institutes in India to offer an online B.Sc degree with the flexibility of completing the course in 6 years.

  • The course fees are very reasonable. There is a special 75% fees concession provided to the students with low-income backgrounds, thereby giving them a chance to pursue their careers.
  • At the end of the program, many universities conduct web-based exams in which cheating is impossible. They are kept under the strict supervision of the invigilators.
  • Regular offline quiz exams are conducted in these centers so that the students remain active and keep studying even following the online mode of study.
  • It is seen that the placements of the students pursuing BTech in CSE get very decent packages.
  • There is a high possibility of 80-90% of B.Sc. graduates getting good jobs as well.
Categories B.Sc (online) at IIT Madras
Course Fee 2.42 lakh
Average CTC 6-8 LPA

Last but not least we can say that the overall quality of an online BSc program is very good when compared to other universities or colleges.

Which is a better choice: EE at the IITM or CSE at the IIITH?

IA
Ishaan Arya Posted On : September 11th, 2020
B. Tech. Computer Science Engineering, International Institute of Information Technology, Hyderabad (2017)

IIIT Hyderabad is considered to be one of the best colleges in the country to pursue computer science and engineering due to the excellent consistency it has obtained with the placement rate and the strong conceptual foundation offered to the students along with an intensive hands-on experience in designing and building prototypes. The college is mostly renowned for the highly consistent placement rate of the CSE branch which is mostly over 90%, and a 100% placement rate of CSE branch was recorded during the 2018-19 academic session with the highest CTC of 46 LPA. Whereas, the median and average CTC offered was respectively, 20 LPA and 8 LPA. The major recruiters were Microsoft, Amazon, Nvidia, VMware, Walmart, etc.

IIT Madras which has been ranked as the no. 1 engineering college in India many times by NIRF has got some of the most prestigious and dedicated faculty members. They impart in-depth practical and theoretical knowledge through an extensive curriculum that makes the students ready for industry. The college had a 86% placement rate for electrical engineering in the session 2018-19, while the average salary package offered was 12.4 LPA. Top recruiters offering roles of analyst, software engineer, hardware engineer, power engineer are Intel, Goldman Sachs, Adobe, ISRO, American Express, and many more.

Both the courses are vastly different from each other and both institutions are the premier institutions of the country, and it would not do justice to pick one over the other. So choose the institute based on your choice of branch.

How is processor "Shakti"by IIT Madras different from that of Intel and ARM?

SR
Sayantan Ray Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
Indian Institute of Technology, Madras (2018)

As far as my knowledge goes, this is probably not the same. From what most people know, ARM is an old RISC processor. X86 is the older scaled-down version and as far as Shakti is concerned, it is a RISC-V processor which is a later version of the ARM (Acorn’s RISC Machine). It also follows the same concepts.

This probably means that if you are planning to do something new with Shakti, it would not have the outdated RISC label to it.

Talking solely about Shakti, it is mostly used as an exercise to demonstrate its ability to do design work and build processors in our country. The bar set here is quite low. They should make Silicon like the one at TSMC and that would probably have a much more lasting impact. This will possibly take some time but they will be there soon.
