Based on what I heard from my friends at the institute I will say life in the first year at Thapar University is great.
Boys have hostel B, C, FRC, and H. If you are in hostel B or C you are gonna have a wonderful time throughout.
When it was my friend’s first year they used to roam on the campus. They used to put off studies for the reading week which is the week before exams for preparation. There are also many extracurricular activities in which you can take part during your first year.
Winters are extremely chilling with lots of fog so if you are from a place where there is no fog you will love it.
Apart from missing your home and the food of the mess, you will surely enjoy your first year.
If you are facing a decision between different colleges, you are recommended to join LNMIIT.
While IIIT Vadodara may seem like an obvious choice, it does not yet have its own campus, and its curriculum is still unstable. Additionally, its placement record is not great. Therefore, IIIT Vadodara may not be the best option for you.
Thapar is a decent college with good infrastructure and facilities, but its student quality may not be as high as you would like. Half of the seats are reserved, and the competition for placements can be tough due to the high student intake. Furthermore, Thapar's reputation has been declining in recent years.
On the other hand, LNMIIT is an excellent choice. There are no reservations, and the number of seats is limited. You can check the college's website for information on placements and other important details. So if you want to make a wise choice, LNMIIT is your best bet.
At present, the average salary for B.Tech Chemical graduates of Thapar University is around 8 LPA. Some recruiters for the department are- Reliance, OCCL, HMEL, JUBILANT Life Sciences, Ambuja Cement, Johnson Matthey, JSW Steel, Deloitte, Agilent Technologies, Honeywell UOP, Zunroof Tech Pvt Ltd, Tech Mahindra, and others.
The department placements are, unfortunately, declining year on year. The B.E. Chemical on campus placement percentage barely touches the 50% mark. And this figure is obtained by taking into account only eligible candidates. A few students receive PPOs in their internships while some are selected off campus in companies like Udaan(Hiveloop Technologies), Vardhman, Jaypee fertilizers, Ind Swift, Zomato, etc.
Thus, the placement figures are not very impressive for BE Chemical at Thapar University.
Thapar University is a top-ranking NAAC 'A+' graded Indian Pvt University with a NIRF rank of 27. It is one of the Top 50 Engineering Colleges of India.

These are the major highlights of all the four top colleges, having good campus life and offering decent placement opportunities to its students. It's your turn to decide now.
Thapar University is one of the oldest universities that dates back to 1956. It’s not logical to compare it with the newly established private colleges as it’s better than them in terms of literally everything be it academics, placements, and overall student development.
However, it has been receiving criticism recently because of its increasing fees. The reason this has become a problem is the high intake of students with average scores who are able to afford the high fees. The quality of the crowd is being compromised by charging high fees and is affecting the academic ambiance to a great extent. This is exactly why it’s being criticized for high fees even though most private colleges have high fees.
Most students with good scores consider Thapar University their last option when they aren’t able to make it to IITs and NITs.
I have friends in other Thapar and NIT Delhi so I am the right person to answer your question. Based on their experiences, these are the key points of differences I derived
Overall, it's a matter of preferences!
IIEST Shibpur is known for its national importance and outstanding alumni network. Thapar Institute of engineering and technology is one of India’s leading private institutions with a NIRF ranking of 27 amongst top engineering colleges. Let us have a look at the difference between the two universities based on some important and relevant factors.
Admissions:
IIEST Shibpur- For BTech at IIEST Shibpur students are required to clear JEE mains and have a minimum of 45% in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics in 10+2, along with 30% in English. For the BTech program in CST, the JEE mains cut-off was at 9379 in 2019.
Thapar University- For CSE admissions at Thapar University, students must qualify JEE mains. The general rank cut-off was 915971 in 2019.
Fee Structure: Considering IIEST is a public university funded by the central government, the demanded fee structure is relatively low. Thapar University on the other hand is a private institution and therefore has a higher range of tuition fees.
The total annual fee for BTech sums up to 1.36 lakhs.
The total annual fee for BTech in CSE sums up 3.24 lakh.
Infrastructure: Being funded by the government, IIEST offers an updated experience in terms of technology but lacks modern infrastructure considering the college is nearly 160 years old. Thapar University is a private institution that has absolutely high-end and modern facilities all across its campus.
Placements:
IIEST Shibpur-
In 2019, 72% of students got placed from the CSE branch in top companies.
The average salary offered to the students of CSE is 6.5 LPA.
The top recruiters that participate in the placement drive are TCS, Samsung, Infosys.
Thapar University-
It has a consistent 90% placement rate over the years.
The average salary offered is around 7 LPA.
Major recruiters of CSE students are Amazon, Microsoft, JP Morgan.
As for which institute to choose, you should decide that depending on your preferences and requirements.
Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology offers a B.E. in Mechatronics Engineering. The program is a fusion of electrical, electronics, and mechanical engineering. This course started only a few years back. I have a few friends who graduated from this branch recently and according to them, placement offers for this branch are not that great.
As a student of Mechatronics, you will be allowed to sit for both Mechanical and Electronics companies. Although, only a few students from this branch get placed. Also, students who got placement were either recruited by mass-recruiters or some IT companies. The average package offered for the students of this branch is around 4 LPA.
A few of my friends have pursued CSE from various universities and institutes. If looked into their experiences, I will tell you to go to Thapar University.
Following are some of the reasons why Thapar is preferable for CSE:
As a result, Thapar is without a doubt the best option for computer engineering.
PES University has ranked 6th among the top 50 private universities of the country by Outlook India in 2019. On the other side, Thapar University has been graded “A” by NAAC and has also ranked 5th among the top private engineering institutes of the country by India Today.
Both these universities are well known and reputed for the quality of education they provide alongside the excellent placement rate and infrastructure.
A few major points have been listed below to help you out to choose the proper institute for your future.
Admission:
PES University- Some of the popular courses at PES are BTech, BBA, B.Com, MTech, MCA. The course fee for various programs ranges between INR 80,000 to 3.3 lakhs.
For BTech, BBA, and BCom students require 10+2. For BTech admission, the institute accepts KCET scores.
For MCA and MTech the examinations accepted are PGCET and GATE.
Thapar University- Few of the popular courses at Thapar University are BTech, BE, MTech, and ME. The course fee for different programs remains around 1.82 lakhs to 3.25 lakhs.
For BTech/BE admission JEE Main scores are considered.
MTech/ME admissions are through GATE.
Placement:
PES University-
Students receive several internships and job opportunities from companies like Robert Bosch Eng. & Business Sols, Sapient, Mu Sigma, L & T Tech Services LTD, Genpact, Tata Elxsi, Deloitte, Cisco, Capgemini, Wipro, Atos and more.
The highest and the medium salary package for the students remain to be around 48 LPA and 6.8 LPA.
More than 90% of students get placed every year from different departments.
Thapar University-
Students of this institute get placed in various companies including Amazon, Microsoft, Infosys, JP Morgan, DE Shaw, and more.
The highest and average salary package remains to be around 39 LPA and 9 LPA.
More than 85% of students get placement every year from college placement drives.
As far as faculty is concerned, both the universities provide excellent faculty members who are well experienced and helpful. The infrastructure provided at both the institutes is also good.
These are some of the basic yet extremely important points that you should never ignore while choosing the proper institution for higher studies.
