Both of the institutes, IIM Bangalore and IIM Kozhikode are reputed business schools in India, and both have their unique strengths and advantages. People want to get into both colleges. Therefore, it is difficult to say that students universally prefer one over the other for post-MBA studies.
IIM Bangalore is better renowned for research and academic excellence, while IIM Kozhikode is noted for its industry-oriented curriculum and practical approach to management education. Students also consider geography, teacher expertise, course offerings, and college culture.
IIM Bangalore or IIM Kozhikode for post-MBA study depends on personal preferences, ambitions, and career aspirations. You need to thoroughly research both schools before choosing.
Typically, IIM Bangalore requires a minimum of 3 years of work experience for candidates to be eligible for their Fellow Program in Management (FPM) in Decision Sciences. However, it’s important to note that other parameters are also given due consideration such as academic background and achievements, professional experience and achievements.
The relevant work ex required for FPM in decision sciences might be a sort of Statistician or analyst coding in any data analysis language. I know many friends who have worked as data analysts in the past while some did not have any such coding background. That is why I don’t think any relevant work ex is required given that you have an excellent overall profile.
It is quite apparent that if you haven’t met people who actually studied in either of these institutions. That’s why this answer is based on my graduation batchmates who successfully managed to secure a seat at IIM Ahmedabad.
Comparing the two IIM Calcutta and Ahmedabad, both the institutions have a big alumni network and claim to be at par. However, that doesn't mean that both are identical or similar because the internal factors matter a lot.

Check if the waitlists of the past few years have created a huge difference for the waiting candidates. If not, go for any of IIM Calcutta or Ahmedabad without giving a second thought.

Admission to the IIMs for their Post Graduate Program in Management (PGP) is based on a combination of factors including academic performance, work experience, and performance in the CAT conducted by the IIMs.
Having a good academic record is certainly a positive factor in the admission process. However, admission to IIMs is highly competitive, and a good academic record alone may not guarantee admission.
A candidate's CAT score is a crucial factor in the admission process. The CAT score is used to shortlist candidates for the next round of the selection process, which typically includes a written ability test (WAT), group discussion (GD), and personal interview (PI). The weightage given to the CAT score varies across IIMs and can range from 25% to 70% or more.
With a 67% score in your BTech degree and two years of work experience, you still have a chance to get admission to IIM Bangalore. However, your CAT score will play a crucial role in determining whether you get shortlisted for further rounds.
To get an idea of the CAT percentile required for admission to IIM Bangalore, you can look at the CAT cutoffs for the previous years. For example, in 2021, the CAT cutoff percentile for General category candidates for admission to IIM Bangalore was 99.5. However, the cutoff percentile can vary from year to year depending on various factors, including the difficulty level of the CAT exam.
In conclusion, while your academic record and work experience are positive factors, your CAT score will play a crucial role in determining your chances of admission to IIM Bangalore. Aim for a high percentile in the CAT exam to increase your chances of getting shortlisted for further rounds.
