Which is easier, EEE or ECE at NIT Surathkal?

TS
Tanushree Sen Posted On : June 10th, 2021
B.Tech Electronics and Communication Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

I have a few friends at NIT Surathkal and based on the conversation I had with them, I will say at NIT Surathkal, ECE is considered to be the toughest branch.

  1. The academics and research are taken very seriously in the department.
  2. The professors are demanding and highly qualified than other departments.
  3. In this department everyone, from HOD to lab assistants, everyone is serious about studies and making a point about academic rigor.
  4. The exams are also very tough and students even fail in lab examinations too.

But the scenario at the EEE department of NIT Surathkal is slightly different and its biggest advantage is that it has a relaxed attendance policy, unlike other branches.

The recent placement statistics for the branches are as follows.

Branch

ECE

EEE

Average CTC

8-9 LPA

5 LPA

Highest CTC

24 LPA

30 LPA

Based on my research, here is some relevant information to assist you-

IIIT Bangalore offers much better infrastructure, research facilities, and placement opportunities as compared to NIT Surathkal. However, the fee structure at IIIT Bangalore is also on the higher side. Most of the top brands visit both these campuses for placements.

As of June 2023, the highest CTC for M.Tech ECE stood at 38 LPA, at IIIT Bangalore. The average CTC stood at 26.2 LPA, and the median CTC stood at 22.5 LPA.

Though both are top colleges, I would recommend you choose IIIT Bangalore for M.Tech ECE. Especially, if the fee is not an issue for you.

Should I choose BITS Goa or NIT K/W/T?

SB

BITS Goa is better than NIT K/W/T.

  • A great factor about BITS is the process of admission is executed based on the merit of the candidates, and not based on the system of reservation which is being followed by many institutions in India.
  • The institution has adopted the curriculum of the courses from MIT.
  • The student crowd is very good at BITS.
  • My friend is a graduate of the institution and claims that the infrastructure of the college campus is among the best in India.
  • The placement of the institution is also extremely good in comparison with many IITs and NITs of India. The placement statistics of BITs Goa are mentioned in the table below for reference.
Particulars Salary/ Statistics (2020)
Average Package offered INR 24.8 Lakhs per annum
Highest Package offered INR 43.3 Lakhs per annum
Major recruiters  Amazon, Oyo, Synchrony

Lastly, the choice is yours. You should do thorough research about all these institutions, and choose based on your interests.

  • The highest package offered was 39 LPA and the average package was 14.5 LPA.

NIT Hamirpur:

In the academic year 2019, NIRF was ranked as the 60th best engineering college in India. The BTech Civil Engineering admission is through JEE Mains. NIT Hamirpur has 9 Ph.D. scholars who are taking the classes. They give tutorial framed questions and the faculty also provides the best study materials.

How many marks are needed for an OBC 3B category to qualify for the NIT Surathkal?

GN
Gopali Narayan Posted On : July 22nd, 2021
B.Tech Chemical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2023)

It is important to note that there is not any category division such as 3A, 3B, etc in the JOSAA counseling procedures. Only the OBC term is considered for all.

One of my friends is studying at NIT Surathkal and he got around 140-150 marks in JEE Main, his rank was around 50k in CRL, and around 13k in the OBC category. He got a seat in NIT Surathkal in Chemical ranch in Special rounds of JOSAA Counselling. He had secured a percentile of around 95.5.

If you want to get into any branch of NIT Surathkal, then you should try to score a minimum of 95% in JEE Mains in being on the safer side. For that, at least 150+ marks should be scored. With this score, one can surely get into NIT Surathkal. If you want a circuit branch then they should try scoring more marks.

I am getting IT branch in NIT Surathkal and CS branch in IIIT Bangalore, which one should I opt?

RS
Rita Sarkar Seth Posted On : April 12th, 2023
Studied at National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathkal (2019)

When it comes to choosing a college and a branch for your undergraduate studies in computer science, it's important to consider various factors such as the quality of education, faculty, infrastructure, and most importantly, the placement prospects.

Firstly, IIIT Bangalore is exclusively dedicated to information technology and computer science education, while NIT Surathkal offers a wide range of engineering courses including IT and CS. However, CS at IIIT Bangalore and IT at NIT Surathkal has comparable curriculums, and you can expect to learn programming languages, algorithms, databases, networking, software engineering, and more.

Let's take a look at the current placement statistics of both colleges in their CS branch:

  • IIIT Bangalore: The average placement package for the CS branch is around 13 lakhs per annum, with top recruiters including Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Flipkart, and more. The highest package offered is around 50 lakhs per annum. The placement rate is around 95%, and most students get placed within the first few days of the placement season.
  • NIT Surathkal: The average placement package for the IT branch is around 8-9 lakhs per annum, while the CS branch has a slightly higher average package of around 10-11 lakhs per annum. The top recruiters include Microsoft, Amazon, Oracle, IBM, and more. The highest package offered is around 42 lakhs per annum. The placement rate is around 90%, and some students get placed in non-technical roles as well.

Now, let's talk about the other aspects of these colleges:

  • Faculty: Both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Surathkal have experienced and qualified faculty members who are dedicated to providing quality education and guidance to students.
  • Infrastructure: IIIT Bangalore has a modern and well-equipped campus with state-of-the-art labs, a library, hostels, sports facilities, and more. NIT Surathkal has a vast and sprawling campus with good facilities, although some departments may lack the latest equipment.
  • Location: IIIT Bangalore is located in the heart of the city, making it easily accessible and providing plenty of opportunities for internships, projects, and collaborations with industry. NIT Surathkal is located in a scenic coastal town, which may be preferable for some students who enjoy a quieter environment.

In conclusion, both IIIT Bangalore and NIT Surathkal are excellent choices for pursuing a career in IT or CS. However, if you prioritize a CS certificate, slightly higher average placement packages, and a central location, IIIT Bangalore may be a better option for you.

Which of the two should I choose: IIT Dharwad EE or NITK Surathkal CSE?

AB
Akriti Banerjee Posted On : July 15th, 2023
lives in New Delhi

Rather than choosing between institutes, choose the branch you are inclined towards. Determining your future prospects is an indispensable factor when choosing your college. You need to find out what you are willing to do after getting your degree; pursuing higher studies or getting employed.

Had I been in your place, I would have chosen NIT Surathkal because of the branch CSE you are getting. In this high-tech era, CSE is in full bloom and is one of the most coveted branches. Someone who is getting CSE at an NIT should never give that chance up for any other branch that too at a new IIT.

Here is why one should go for NIT Surathkal

  • NIT Surathkal fairs are better than IIT Dhanwad in terms of faculty, infrastructure, and placements.
  • NIT Surathkal has a stunning campus with its own private beach.
  • IIT Dhanwad does not even have half the companies that visit NITK Surathkal for placements.
  • NITK Surathkal is a well-established institute often compared to the IITs while IIT Dhanwad is yet to make its mark.

The following points prove enough that NITK Surathkal CSE is better than IIT Dhanbad EE. In fact, I would have chosen IIT Dhanwad CSE over electrical or other core branches at old IITs. however, my answer is not directed towards someone who has a particular interest in Electrical, for them IIT EE is the best.

Which is better, NIT Silchar's electrical or NIT Surathkal's metallurgy?

TA
Tithi Aggrawal Posted On : August 31st, 2023
Lives in New Delhi

One of my friends studied in NIT Silchar and also has friends in NIT Hamirpur. I asked him the same question and he claimed NIT Hamirpur to be a better choice.

Stating reasons for the same he said:

  • NIT Hamirpur campus is extremely beautiful and well-equipped with modern facilities.
  • The level of academics is better at NIT Hamirpur than at NIT Silchar.
  • The faculty pool of NIT Harimpirbis more experienced and approachable.

The major issue that NIT Silchar faces is the connectivity between cities. As a result, many recruiters are interested in coming here affecting the placement scenario and crowd quality largely. NIT Hamirpur on the other hand is located close to Delhibso the exposure r and opportunities are better.

Should I take BITS Goa for ECE or NITK for information technology (IT)?

PS
Prateek Sinha Posted On : August 10th, 2021
Ph.D. Engineering Geology & Geotechnical Engineering, National Institute of Technology Karnataka, Surathka

IT in NITK is the most sought-after branch after CS and EC. You should also be aware of the status of NITS and BITS. NITs are usually national-level institutes, but the onus of choosing your preferred branch and institute finally depends on you.

NITs have always been better than private institutes. Look at your area of interest. Do you like to tinker with electronic objects or is coding your forte? Once you clear this out, you will have a clear idea about what to choose.

But, if you are unable to make a decision, look at placements if you are going to look for a job in the future. Students from CS and IT get paid really well with higher chances of bagging a job as compared to other branches.

As far as these two colleges are concerned, NITK has better placements for IT. BITS Goa is good too. Overall, you will not regret choosing either of these two colleges but in the end, it all boils down to your interests.
