Which is a better college for an MBA in Ops/Finance, XIMB BM or IMT Ghaziabad PGDM FT?

DS

M.B.A. from Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (Graduated 2019)

It would be a good idea for you to go to the Xavier Institute of Management Bhubaneswar (XIMB). Since you have expressed an interest in studying operations/finance, it would be more beneficial for you to attend XIMB rather than the Institute of Management Technology Ghaziabad (IMT-G). IMT-G is known to be a great college for marketing, but for other courses, XIMB has the edge. Additionally, major consulting firms, including the "big four," visit the college for placements.

However, it's important to note that the course fees for XIMB may be steeper than other institutions. Overall, XIMB would be a good choice for an overall view.

Should I attend XIMB Xavion in Bhubaneswar? Is it worth attending?

This will entirely depend on your interests, seriousness, and perspectives on entrepreneurship. If you are looking for entrepreneurship and in the future, plan to become an entrepreneur or see yourself as one, you should definitely attend it.

  • Entrepreneurship is mainly about making contacts, meeting people and organizations. If you go to XIMB Xavion, you will get to do all this. This will also depend on where you live. If you live outside the region, you will have to be willing to travel as well.
  • Even if you live within the state, you should definitely attend the conference as some of the best speakers in the country are present at this conference. You can also go through their profiles to know more about them.
  • One of my friends attended the conference and as per him, the competitions are good too. You will definitely have a great experience.

It is worth attending and the internship fair has more than 50 different companies that also offer internships to MBA students. In 2020, some of the prominent speakers were Chinmoy Panda, Vaibhav Agarwal, Jonathan Bill, Kanika Tekriwal.

Moreover, they also have a good Comedy Festival where that is a lot of stand-up comics that show their talent. You should attend it.

How is the placement for the Executive MBA program offered by XIMB?

PP

Lives in Bangalore

Although it is student-driven and the college placement committee supports it as needed, XIMB currently doesn't offer placement for the executive batch because most of the students coming there are on sabbatical. However, there have been discussions that indicate that if the majority chooses to pursue placements rather than taking sabbaticals, the college will begin offering them in the upcoming years.

Is XIMB HR good for a fresher? How are the placements at XIMB HR? I have a score of 214 in NMAT. What are my chances of getting admission in XIMB HR?

MBA in Human Resource Management, Xavier Institute of Management, Bhubaneswar (Graduated 2020)

The Xavier Institute of Management (XIMB) is a great option for those considering an MBA program. You will be presented with a wealth of opportunities to learn and grow as a professional. To be considered for admission, you will need to have scored at least 214 on the NMAT, but keep in mind that there are also sectional cutoffs to be aware of. The MBA Placement 2022 season for XIMB's 34th MBA batch, which consisted of 355 students, was a success with 100% placement.

Additionally, the average salary for MBA graduates from XIMB has risen from Rs.15.15 LPA in 2021 to Rs.17.54 LPA in 2022, a 16% increase. Consulting was the top recruiting sector, with 41% of offers, and top recruiters included Accenture, Cognizant, Deloitte, EY, and ICICI.

Which one should I join, XIMB BM or IIM Amritsar?

KS
Khushboo Singh Posted On : January 19th, 2023
PGP student @ IIM Amritsar

If you have to choose between XIMB and IIM Amritsar I will always suggest you go for IIM Amritsar. Apart from the IIM tag, its relentless growth is a major deciding factor. The ROI at XIMB is very less in comparison to IIM. The points below will help you understand my point.

  • The fee of IIM Amritsar is INR 12 Lakhs whereas that of XIMB is INR 20 Lakhs.
  • The Average package is almost similar to the 2 colleges ( IIM Amritsar- INR 14.63 LPA and XIMB- INR 15.42 LPA). So when compared to the fees XIMB has a lower ROI than IIM Amritsar.
  • IIM Amritsar has witnessed fast-paced growth in recent years.
  • It is the only and best MBA college in the whole of Punjab
  • The batch size is smaller than that of XIMB and it’s an extra benefit when it comes to placement opportunities.

So IIM Amritsar is the best option among the 3 colleges.

I got only 59.61 percentile in DILR. But in English and maths, I got 97 and 88 respectively, overall 90.71. Will I get calls from IMI Delhi and XIMB?

If you have an aggregate percentile of above 90%, you can go with IMI Delhi as the marks are not evaluated subject-wise. However at XIMB, they have mentioned that they will have a sectional cut-off, but how much is not specified. So with such a low score in DILR (Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning), you may miss out.

But before you choose any of the institutes, you should ask yourself, if you put enough effort into quants and DILR while preparing? If the answer is no. Then, it will be better to prepare for another year and aim for a better score.

If you put in the hard work now, you can get into much better B-School like IIMs, SPJ, etc. A better school means more academic pressure, but in the end, you will end up with a better CTC and a reputed company. In corporate life, pressure is not available, so why not aim to do it with a better salary.

If you put in 18 hours of work for 6-7 months, your percentile will definitely improve. And if staying motivated is a challenge for you, you can get a mentor who will push you to do better.

So, although IMI and XIMB are pretty good options, it will be better if you try to better your percentile.

Can I get a call from XIMB HR with an NMAT score of 189?

SB
Soumita Baxi Posted On : June 16th, 2021
MBA BM, XLRI (2018)

Most probably, no. Here are some reasons why you have negligible chances with this score.

  • Conservative estimates put XIMB HR in the 205+ score range whereas generous estimates put XIMB HR in the 190+ score range. According to the 2020 trends, the NMAT cutoff for XIMB is 200.
  • XIMB is one of the prime management colleges with a great curriculum and great placements, thus leaving no reasons for the cutoff to go below 190.
  • 190 is even lower than generous estimates for NMIMS Bangalore and NMIMS Hyderabad, which are not as good as XIMB, as per most national-level rankings.

Although there are little to no chances, you never know what is the trend each year. You may get selected next year or maybe not, it all depends on the number of seats and highest score. The best advice here is to prepare well and give a retake.
