Is it a wise decision to join an IIT Bhubaneswar dual degree course ?

AP
Abhinav Pandey Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech. from Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur (2024)

IIT Bhubaneswar is one of the best new IITs. One of the advantages is the strength of the batch is relatively small. The faculty: student ratio is also low. This forms a close-knit family at the Institute. Also, IIT Bhubaneswar very much focuses on their placement to improve their rankings. Many top firms like ISRO, IOCL, TCS R&D have visited the campus for internship and final placements offer. The average salary package offered to the students was 11.44 LPA, and the highest package was 39 LPA.

You will feel good to know that IIT Bhubaneswar has collaborated with various foreign universities for student exchange programs and research, as well. In your last year, you will do a project and research work, so you will be able to build a vast industrial insight. Also, dual degree courses are not a bad option because at the end of 5 years you will have two degrees and if you go abroad for a second Master’s degree, some of the courses would have been covered by you in your fifth year. In this way, you will finish your masters in less than 18 months. At the cost of an extra six months, you are getting exposure to the specialized technical courses and a degree. So, dual degree courses are great and it is an IIT after all where you can have a great alumni network ... You are good to go!

SB
Sriparna Banerjee Posted On : August 16th, 2022
Studied at National Institute of Technology, Rourkela

NIT Rourkela is better for a Masters in Geology. It offers better facilities. Geology department has well-equipped labs with latest technologies. The campus has an active research environment. There is cutting-edge ongoing research in the field of Earth and Atmospheric Science.

Although NIT Rourkela is the better option in terms of academics and research culture, IIT Bhubaneswar has a locational advantage. Due to this advantage, it's easier to get projects and placement opportunities.

How do you compare ECE in NITK and IIT Bhubaneswar?

DM
Danish Malik Posted On : July 23rd, 2024
Student at IIT Bhubaneswar

NIT Surathkal was established in 1960, and its ECE program started in 1979. IIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2008, and its ECE branch started in 2016. Even though IIT Bhubaneswar is very new compared to NIT Surathkal, it in no way lags behind in terms of clubs, societies, academics and placements for its ECE students.

Here is a comparison between these institutions for your reference:

INR 10.40 Lakh

Some of the features of IIT Bhubaneswar which makes it more compatible as compared to NIT Surathkal are as follows:

  • Students & Faculty: Students who join this college are some of the elite students in the country. Since ECE branch isn't available in all of the IITs, this is the best option for the ECE enthusiasts. The faculty of the ECE department is top notch.
  • Placements: The placement of students in this branch is really good. The average placement of this branch is around 23 LPA.
  • Workload: ECE branch has the most hectic schedule among all other branches. The third semester is the most hectic. But if you choose this branch out of your own interest, you’ll get past all the difficulties.
  • Reputation: This college is one of the highly reputed colleges in the country. Graduates of IIT Bhubaneswar are currently working for successful companies around the globe.
  • College Life: The campus life is vibrant. Tech and Cultural Fests are held annually. Celebs like Sonu Nigam, Kailash Kher, Shreya Ghoshal have performed in the cultural fest of our college in the past, along with some popular bands and DJs.

The Average and Lowest Package for IIT Bhubaneswar’s B.Tech ECE are much better than NITK. Added to better placements is the fact that IIT Bhubaneswar carries the prestigious ‘IIT’ tag and modern infrastructure.

Based on all these reasons, I would suggest you opt for B.Tech ECE at IIT Bhubaneswar.

I got into mechanical in IIT Bhubaneswar in the first allotment. The cutoff for the same at Gandhinagar is 3500 and my rank is 3880. Will I get it?

IB
Indrani Bose Posted On : August 14th, 2020
Studied at Indian Institute of Technology Bhubaneswar (2021)

There are high possibilities that you will get it. There are three rounds of selection in IIT Gandhinagar. If your rank is 3500 and the first round cut-off is 3880 then there are high chances of getting selected by the end of the second round.

Looking at the cut off the trend of the last few years, then it is quite clear IIT Gandhinagar released quite decent ranks throughout. In 2019, the cut off for the mechanical department was 4476 whereas in 2018 the cut off was 4229. So having a rank of 3880 is not bad and the possibilities of getting selected are quite high.

For selection, rank is not the only thing considered in IIT Gandhinagar. The scores of the 10th and the 12th standard of the candidate are also considered. In the two-step selection process, the rank is considered first and then the Board’s scores. Then finally, the top percentile candidates on the list will be selected. Although certain advantages are provided to the SC/OBC candidates in terms of ranks, the seats are allotted differently for the general category and the SC/OBC category which do not overlap each other during selection.

IIT Bhubaneswar is the first choice for most of the students when it comes to mechanical. When you will be selected in the first allotment there, IIT Gandhinagar will not be that challenging and by the end of the second or third allotment, you may get selected.

Between IIT Bhubaneswar and NIT Trichy’s Structural Engineering M.Tech courses, which are better?

AK
Ashok Khurana Posted On : August 14th, 2020
B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, India (2009)

If the IIT tag is not considered, NIT Trichy’s Structural Engineering M.Tech course is better than IIT Bhubaneswar. But the hallmark of IIT does offer certain advantages.

NIT Trichy was established in 1964 while IIT Bhubaneswar was established in 2008. So, it is the older institution with a strong alumni base. NIRF in 2019 ranked NIT Trichy 10 in India while IIT Bhubaneswar was ranked at 17.

NIT Trichy has a very good placement record over the years and it is pretty good for structural engineering specialization. Almost 80% of the M. Tech students are employed in reputed companies every year with an average salary package of 5 lakh per annum. Some of the companies in which the students get placed are L&T Construction, L&T Hydrocarbon, TCE, L&W Construction, Atkins, Dow Chemicals, Technip, etc.

Compared to NIT Trichy, IIT Bhubhaneshwar does not have an impressive M. Tech placement record. The institute has witnessed around 68% of placement. But in the year 2018, there was an increase in the number of jobs offered from core industries. The average salary package was 11.15 package per annum. Top MNC recruiters were Goldman Sachs, Renault, Nissan, Samsung, Oracle, Infosys, Adobe, etc. The public sector undertakings in India such as ISRO, IOCL, HPCL, NCCBM also participated in placement.

The total fee structure of IIT Bhubaneswar for the M.Tech Structural Engineering program is Rs. 2.31 Lakhs/ Year. While the fee structure in NIT Trichy is only Rs. 96,625/ Year. NIT Trichy has highly qualified and experienced faculty. Most of them hold Ph. D and some of them have completed PostDoc. The institute makes use of the e-learning platform to teach the students. IIT Bhubaneswar is also rich with experienced faculties.
